Gojira Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Most bands have some sort of progression in their particular established sound (be it good or bad), and it seems perfectly understandable to mix things up once in a while. Even with a band like Metallica, who obviously received a large amount of backlash for simplifying their music and following more unfavorable trends during the 90s, at least took a gamble and tried something different...

Gojira are something of an anomaly in the metal world; they've influenced countless new extreme metal bands in their wake, and yet very few artists have been able to successfully replicate their style. To the newcomers of the band, they may initially come off as Meshuggah with a more emotional (and of course environmental, when referring to the lyrics) side to them...

Formed in 1996, Gojira have proved a unique phenomenon on the metal scene, spearheading a largely unfamiliar aesthetic, ideology and worldview within a movement heavily based on traditional archetypes. Distinctly angular in sound, with a definite emphasis on rhythm - the star of this DVD is unequivocally drummer Mario Duplantier, as opposed to his brother, vocalist, bassist and frontman Joe - the French outfit's music owes much to the technical death metal of acts such as Meshuggah, marrying...

"Much like the rhythms of nature often used for inspiration, 'L'enfant Sauvage' crashes like a wave, then recedes like the tide - Gojira's music is truly alive." What I've always admired about the French death prog band Gojira is how the albums flow. Much like the rhythms of nature often used for inspiration, "L'enfant Sauvage" (called "wild child" in French) crashes like a wave, then recedes like the tide - Gojira's music is truly alive...

Gojira have steadily been making a name for themselves over the years. 2008 found them with a critically and commercially successful album and a spot opening up for Metallica and Lamb of God. 2012 finds the Bayonne-based metallers releasing another effort worthy of their name, . Gojira have taken their knack for odd time signatures, weird rhythms and wonderfully conscious metal to a new level...

Gojira are currently considered the alpha and omega of Gallic metal--a French phoenix that arose from their home shores to spread their socially aware lyrical message and menacing musicianship worldwide. If you were to believe popular mainstream metal publications and fans you would be led to think that Gojira were, and are, the only French metal band in the history of the world to ever exist...

Sound: One of the best ways to tell if a metal band has hit it big is by seeing if people recognise their guitar tone. To be distinguished from thousands of sounds and thousands of riffs by thousands of people is a testament to both creativity and brand power, and a lot can be drawn from the fact that premier French exports Gojira had this long before their first release on a major league label...

Although L'Enfant Sauvage is the fifth album by French metal band Gojira, it's the first to be released in the U.S. with a French title. And not just any title, but one taken from François Truffaut's 1970 film about a feral youth learning to become civilized--and just as importantly, learning to speak. The choice of title can't be accidental. Not only is L'Enfant Sauvage relentlessly assured, it's the group's most articulate release to date, and that's saying something...

Since the release of From Mars To Sirius, Gojira have become something of a phenomenon: a fantastically heavy death metal band from France that is universally adored and admired. 2008's The Way Of All Flesh cemented their place at the top end of the underground, headlining their own tours and with two stints supporting Metallica...
