Him Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

As one of the few contemporary frontmen to ooze authentic rock-star cool, Ville Valo has made light work of attracting a vast fanbase over the 16 years since HIM's debut. The Finns' formula remains as distinctive as ever on their eighth studio album, their cobwebbed melodies, lovelorn pathos and grubby metallic crunch all intact...

Forged in the early 90s by English death-doom pioneers such as Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride, gothic metal's melodic and brooding atmospherics soon hinted at a softer and more commercially viable side to hard rock, but was initially kept in check by the grimmer underground sensibilities of the bands in question...

Reviewing ?best of? albums is often difficult, as there is little, if anything, that a fan of the act will not have heard before. However, for someone not very familiar with the band, it can serve as a fantastic introduction. HIM, or His Infernal Majesty, are one of those bands that many people have heard of, and perhaps even more have an opinion of...

Sound: The sound has some of there mellow and soft music like 'The Funeral Of Hearts' and 'Gone With The Sin' to some of there more fast rock songs like 'Buried Alive By Love' and 'Right Here In My Arms'. Most of the verses have a keyboard tune or soft guitar tune going in back ground which sound very good. The choruses have great distortion. Overall the sound exellent. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics are all about love and death. I think every song mentions these two words...

Sound: I am quite surprised that no one else has reviewed this album, but I am also honored to be the first to review such a wonderful album. The album does not have very much drumming, but where it is, it is beautifully done. Quite a lot of synths in this CD, I like it because it adds a nice changed-up factor from the first few albums. Every song on this album, as most of you already know, is just a remake of the original...

Sound: It's to be regretted that HIM isn't really a metal or at least gothic rock band anymore... At the begining of their music career the critics have christened HIM's genre as "love metal." They've played rather heavy music with a lot of growlig guitars. Take for example one of their most knowing cover version -- "Wicked Game," originally performed by Chris Isaak. They were really be able to impart a hard sounding to such melodic song...

Sound: Intriguing as HIM frontman Ville Valo's appearance and demeanor might be, the music on his band's seventh studio album Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice leaves plenty to be desired. The melodramatic title is alluring in its own right, leaving the average listener to assume that this is a record chock-full of passionate arrangements. Unfortunately, the latest CD feels like rehashed - and often generic - HIM material...

Sound: I'm not sure how to categorise HIM, there are bits from a load of different genres in their music. It's like a mix of heavy metal and gothic metal. The sound on this album is great, the guitar sounds awesome and Ville's singing is amazing too. All the weird screaming sounds and effects on "It's All Tears" sound great. 01. Your Sweet 666 - 10/10, my favourite song. 02. Wicked Game - 10/10, genius, it's amazing how something so good can come out of such a lame original. 03...

Sound: The follow up to Fall 2006's Uneasy listening Vol. 1, this much anticipated release has been a major tease to HIM fans for quite some time. It boasts heavier, more fast-paced music instead of the melancholic, acoustic tracks of it's predecessor. It features three live tracks from a show in Turku, including Black Sabbath's "Hand of Doom", covers of Turbonegro's "Rendezvous With Anus" and Bad Brain's "Sailin' On", and remixes of several other HIM songs...
