Make no mistake, if he has a hit that crosses over to the mainstream, I enjoy it as much as the next man, because he does have (if nothing else) a charismatic delivery. In general though I find his flow to be overrated and his lyrical content to be nothing special whatsoever...

Jim Jones and his crew The Diplomats are weird, mein. Their beats and lyrics sometimes don't quite make sense. Just check the chorus of Summer wit' Miami, where Jones attempts to compare the female monthly cycle to, uh, the passing of seasons. His big hit, Baby Girl with Max B, is dirty, bass-heavy crunk, and What You Been Drinkin On with Diddy, Paul Wall and Jha-Jha creeps as slowly through your stereo as the cars that'll be playing it...

Well DipSet definitely stay true to their fam, we haven't seen anybody break camp yet and release an anti-DipSet record. I am not even going to discuss the "American Gangster" tie-in theme because so many people are exhausted with it and get right down to brass tacks as far as the music is concerned. I want to love Jim Jones. My primary reason for wanting to love the Dirt Angel is that he is in possession of what I consider the most valuable asset a hip-hop artist can have: a great voice. He has a deeply satisfying baritone accented with just enough nasal quality to differentiate himself from others around him...
