John 5 Reviews

Sound: I first heard about John 5, in the first issue of Australian Guitar. The article that featured him, basically outlined that he is an outspoken guitarist with some "extreme pickin' skills." I put this magazine down and forgot about the article for a while, until only about a fortnight ago, I was in a record store and I came across John 5: Vertigo. Seeing this immediatly jogged my memory, I bought the CD and was absolutely blown away by the incredible guitar work...

Sound: Don't try to repeat it as it can be dangerous! With his new album Devil Knows My Name, John 5 for the third time proves he can do magic with his guitar! You would expect something like that from a man who's got his own Signature Fender Telecaster... As the musician claims in one interview, he is constantly writing instrumental stuff and you realize what he means listening to his new album -- 11 pure instrumental songs, full of guitar solos...

It's been 20 years since John Lowery, a wirey metal-head from the well-to-do community of Grosse Point, MI, packed his guitar and headed to Hollywood. He shared the dream of countless other guitar players growing up in the late 80's - move to Hollywood and "make it big". Unlike the countless others, he's still standing. Along the way John Lowery became John 5 and that outcast kid from Michigan has flourished as a musical chameleon...

John 5 aka John William Lowery found his fame and fortune playing for Marilyn Manson. But don't hold that against him. John 5 is a premier guitarist, a Malmsteem for the 21st century. He shreds with the best. His music is hardly innovative unless he picks up the acoustic guitar or banjo. It is, however, slick and astonishing. John 5 moves and grooves with a modern nearly industrial sound. His guitar work is efficiently accessible and highly believable...

Guitarist John Lowery (aka John 5) is something of a man about town in music circles. His first encounter with a fret board was in 1978, at the tender age of seven. After school Lowery moved to Los Angeles, falling in and out of various bands until 1996, when he was picked to be kd lang's touring guitarist. Two years later he found himself thrust into the spotlight of controversy as lead guitarist with Marilyn Manson for the Mechanical Animals tour...

Sound: Wow! when you are listening "The Devil Kmows My Name" you can't imagine something more coolly. But here it is Requiem! The greatest instrumental guitar album ever listened! John 5 said that he hardly working every nigh, he try to be the biggest and greatest guitar player ever seen, so of course he is! Here you would find awesome solos, blues-rock and even country riffs! It is the heaviest John's album. 11 magic tracs, full of scream, blood, filth and the cleanest love to music...

Sound: In the short time between releasing his first solo album, "Vertigo", in 2004 and penning his second effort "Songs for Sanity" in 2005, you would be forgiven for thinking you were listening to an entire different artist! "Vertigo" whilst an outstanding first effort, left a little to be desired. You could tell that there was more to this player than met the ear. "Songs for Sanity" shows you that MORE. The album highlights everything that John 5 is about...

Since John 5 has gained acclaim from the A-list of guitar gods -- the Steve Vais, the Joe Satrianis, the Paul Gilberts, and the Yngwie Malmsteens -- you pretty much know what to expect with his solo albums: a total and utter shred-fest to show off his scorching chops. His fourth release, Requiem, is exactly that. It acts as a calling card to prove that he's a praiseworthy axemaster as he blasts through scales and exercises in blazing fury...

Fresh out of Marilyn Manson's band, guitarist John5 wasted no time issuing his solo debut, 2004's Vertigo. And for Manson disciples expecting the album to strictly follow to the game plan that John5 followed with his previous employer, you're sure to be in for a surprise...
