Kamelot Reviews

Sound: Kamelot is one of the Top 3 bands in symphonic metal, right up there with Nightwish and Epica. In the middle of the 2000's they turned away from their power metal roots in favour of a more symphonic and modern sound, this album is no exception. The songs are written in a style quite similar to "The Black Halo" on many tracks and the production is great...

Losing a talented, respected, and loved band member can provide unsettling results or grand opportunities for the future. Many thought Dream Theater would stumble when Mike Portnoy departed. Instead they persevered and released another excellent album. Kamelot lost Roy Khan last year, but speculation to their undoing was largely unwarranted. They return with Seventh Wonder vocalist Tommy Karevik, and their tenth album, Silverthorn. Kamelot: new vocalist Tommy Karevik at the fore...

Sound: When I first heard of them, I was expecting the sound to be the standard type of power metal, with iron swords and fire breathing dragons. But then, when I decided to listen to one of their songs, I imediately went out to buy this album: The Black Halo. Like I said before, they aren't the Rhapsodysh kind of metal. They have their own unique sound. They are actualy power/progressive metal and might I say that the songs on this album are unbelievably compelling and pure...

Sound: I think the best way to do this would be to go song-by-song. I will point out right here that in comparison to the other albums of theirs I own, this one doesn't seem as guitar-heavy, but have no doubt that everything on this album lives up to The Black Halo. 01.Solitaire: this track is really just an extended intro. It features a solo violin leading directly into the first full track. 02.Rule The World: this song features the violin playing a little after the verse & chorus...

"The highlight of this album isn't the four parts of 'Poetry For The Poisoned,' but rather 'The Zodiac,' 'Hunter's Season,' and 'House On A Hill.'" Kamelot is a rare breed in the metal world. For starters, they're an American power/symphonic metal band that has garnered lots of success in a genre that is pretty much dominated by Europe...

Sound: Despite the fact that many others have said this already, Kamelot has once again delivered a masterpiece of an album. Their new offering shows a great deal of growth and maturity within the band from the arranging to the delivery each song feels carefully crafted to achieve the most perfect balance possible...

Three years is too long to wait for a new Kamelot album. Yet, when it's as good as their latest release, Poetry for the Poisoned, it is certainly worth the wait. After holing up in a cabin in Norway for three weeks, and then venturing to a German studio, Kamelot has produced a remarkable album that fuses the progressive power metal, for which they are known, with subtle moments of modern rock. But this description hardly defines the breadth and depth of Poetry for the Poisoned...

Sound: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is Ghost Opera." The somewhat melodramatic introductory words spoken by Kamelot frontman Roy Kahn on disk 2 of Ghost Opera: The Second Coming actually feel completely appropriate for the theatrical stage show the band delivers. The new release does feature the original Ghost Opera release on the first disk, but the main attraction is really the concert portion on disk 2...
