Korn Reviews

Korn were dealt plenty criticism during the 8 years that Brian "Head" Welch was absent from the band. People just failed to accept that this was a new chapter in the band's career, and that their vision was to be somewhat of an experimental band. Jonathan Davis even went as far as saying that Korn "is not a metal band." Now, Head is back and it's only natural that fans' immediate expectation was for the band to return to its roots. For better or worse, this has not happened entirely...

November 4, 2013 On 2011's The Path of Totality, these California nu-metal lifers threw a Hail Mary and added dubstep wub to their hell-is-all-around thud. Here, the news is guitarist Brian "Head" Welch's return after an eight-year absence, so we're back to clicking bass, Jonathan Davis' serial-killer voice and sheets of guitar...

KoRn has always been on the bleeding edge of modern Heavy Metal, yet generally gave the impression that they were blazing their own trails. From their ambitious and emotional self-titled debut album from 1994 (which managed to combine nursery rhymes, aggressive scatting, bagpipes (!) and even the lead singer dissolving into tears up through their involvement in the rap-metal and "nu metal" movement of the late 1990s and their return to form in the early part of the new century...

Sound: Chug-chug, wob-wob, squee squash squirm. For one reason or another the strange sounds will ring long in the ears of Korn fans. Was a dubstep album, produced by Skrillex, Noisia and others, a brave step taken in good faith or was it an unmitigated disaster? We may never know, because all the chatter here and elsewhere has moved to the subject of Brian "Head" Welch's return...

Sound: Issues has got to be the most drastic change from original Korn. They used realy strange effects even for them. They also showed a deep connection with their fans by letting them design the cover for this album. This CD is also the very last of the "perfect Korn sound" which started to fade on the albums to come. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics seem darker and more down to Earth than what you would normaly expect from Korn...

Sound: They promised a very new sound. And I must say that they have accomplished that. Pretty industrial at points. Songs like Throw Me Away prove that. Also the old skool sound is back. Hypocrites is a song that could have been on the self titled record. There are four songs that have bagpipes and two songs with scat. So the old korn aspects are still there. The first time I heard it, I thought I didn't like it...

Sound: This is an amazing cd. Well heres the math, their hate filled vocailst, Jon Davis, plus a duo of 7 string guitars, a rapper with a bass, plus a David with some sticks equals great sound. I am a great fan of Korn, they are my all time favorite band...

Sound: Korn completely jumps from the sinking nu-metal ship on their 5th studio performance. The clarity of their sound was greater than it had ever been. With crunching, heavy riffs, agressive drumming, and sonic bass lines, Untouchables proved to be the next big thing for Korn. The record was produced by Michael Beinhorn, known for his previous work with groups like Marilyn Manson, Stone Temple Pilots, and Red Hot Chili Peppers...

Sound: It's been hard to pinpoint Korn's sound, particularly since every Nu-Metal band has been trying to throw the Nu-metal monkey of its back since the term was first used to refer to anything. I don't want to become embroiled in genre battles, so to comment on what's been put in front of me, "The Path Of Totality" isn't as instantly deplorable as I first imagined. The opening song, "Chaos Lives In Everything", is just there. Musically, it fails to register with any real impact...
