Lamb Of God Reviews

Release Date: January 24th 2012 As a reviewer, there are only so many records and bands of a certain genre that you can listen to before you get jaded and bored. That's why it's important to challenge yourself to review things you've never listened to, or even a genre you've never listened to, or don't usually listen to. For myself, metal, hardcore, and their many subgenres are those genres...

As any metalhead over 35 will tell you, heavy metal as we used to know it is in its last days. The biggest bands of the genre - Maiden, Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer, Priest and the rest of the old guard - have, if you believe in actuarial tables, only a decade or so to go before massive wealth, worn-out neck muscles and general tour bus fatigue cause them to call it a day. So who's going to take over...

Release Date: January 24, 2012 Over the past twelve years, Lamb of God have not really changed their sound, nor have they ever had any intention of doing so. There's always the argument that bands should keep releasing unique albums to keep things interesting, but then there's the argument that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." The latter happens to be more appropriate for Lamb of God's most recent release Resolution...

Summary: Sludgy, raw, and incredibly forceful - Lamb of God is back. For those who found Lamb of God's direction on 2009's Wrath to be a bit underwhelming, the burning wreckage in the background of the cover might as well be a stack of those records. With the metal quintet's latest offering, they eradicate any hints of the heavy-but-repetitive Wrath by replacing that sound with something just as intense but markedly more satisfying...

Sound: Wrath is most similar to Lamb of God's debut, New American Gospel, in that it's raw, unfettered, chest-heaving metal. While the band has progressed and polished things, relatively speaking, with each successive album, Wrath isn't any sort of step backwards; it's a pleasant surprise to see the band return to its sludgier roots for an album's worth of material...

Sound: Lamb Of God have been at the forefront of the NWOAHM since they first hit it big in 2003 after a label change to Prosthetic Records. At this point in time, the band has become a household name for metalheads, with the general attitude towards them being very 'love it' or 'hate it'. Always evolving but never compromising, Lamb Of God's virulent breed of groove-oriented post-thrash is far from easy on the ears...

Sound: Lamb Of God has been on a continued ascent over the past few years. Sure, the natives of Virginia were banned from the Los Angeles Forum last year because the venue was owned by a church group who didn't like the band's name, but they have thankfully had more than a few things that have sparked a positive stream of attention...

Sound: Lamb Of God has released consistently good material since Randy Blythe joined the group and they changed their name to Lamb Of God from their previous incarnation as instrumental band Burn The Priest. "Resolution" is no different in delivering solid heavy music. Lamb Of God entered the studio in February 2011 to begin recording, once again bringing in Josh Wilbur for mixing and producing (who also worked with the band on "Wrath")...

Sound: How to start off, the sound on this album is "unique" at worst, that's right worst, to try to think of it in it's best terms isn't possible, it kicks far too much ass. The first time I heard about Lamb of God I shrugged it off as some band trying to make it big with drop D tuned guitars, I've never been more glad to STFU. This is an amazing album, containing some of the most amazing riffs and the instrumental track is just insane...
