Temporary doesn't feel like that much has changed or like that much has grown with respect to Light Years' last record. I Won't Hold This Against You was a tight, melodically sensible pop-punk effort last year that really felt like the band was ready to take the next step forward. Why? Because they showed diversity and range outside the poppy arena. This new EP feels like they've made small steps in the right direction but not as big as most would have thought...

Release Date: June 18th 2013 Last month, I got an email from the Paper + Plastick Digital Subscription Series, and it was for the most recent EP Parking Lots by Ohio pop-punk outfit Light Years, whom I was recently acquainted with. The EP was only three songs, and it served as a double-single for debut record, I Won't Hold This Against You. The EP featured two songs from the record, "Parking Lots" and "Put Yourself Together" along with an acoustic version of the latter track...

It's apparent from I Won't Hold This Against You that Light Years have potential Was it fully realized on I Won't Hold This Against You? Not really. The album's decent but there's something missing; It's not that the band necessarily played it safe or anything, but there's a sense that they didn't fully exploit their sound. That said, it'll be amazing to hear what these guys put out on their next record.
"Uphill Battles" highlights the crisp vocals of Pat Kennedy-the whole record does, really...

Release Date: June 18, 2013 Refreshing. A word I would have never imagined using to describe pop-punk band's debut album in 2013. However, Light Years' debut full length, I Won't Hold This Against You, is just that. Here's a band that seems like the members have been rocking more +44 than Blink-182. They aren't trying to sound like New Found Glory. They don't rely on hooks, angst-fueled songs about girls, or chanting gang vocals...
