Luis Miguel Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

Latin America's biggest star - Luis Miguel - released a CD with very catchy and jazzy Latin Pop songs. The songs on this album have the potential of making tens of thousands of young girls scream, cry and sing in unison when hearing Luis Miguel's great voice and sweet lyrics. The first time I heard Luis Miguel was in 1997. Now, in 2010, I still get goosebumps when hearing his songs...

Luis Miguel can do whatever he wants. With a catalog of hits like his, a string of platinum records and an unstoppable Billboard presence, anything with Miguel's name on it is guaranteed a certain level of success. Such is certainly the case with his 2006 release Navidades. This collection of yuletide favorites landed the number one spot in both the Latin Pop and Top Latin Albums category on Billboard charts...

Luis Miguel found his musical maturity while making his successful bolero revival albums: Romance, released in 1991; Segundo Romance, released in 1994; and Romances, released in 1997. After a Latin pop decade, this talented Mexican artist turned to romantic ballads, keeping his deserved status of a top-selling singer while becoming involved in the Latin adult contemporary scene...

Luis Miguel's 1996 album Nada Es Igual was the follow-up to his hugely successful live album El Concierto, and his first pop album since 1993's Aries. The album, albeit a pop album, has a definite jazz feel to it, evident on some of the more upbeat numbers such as "Si Te Vas" and "Todo Por Su Amor," which utilize ample amounts of horns...

Luis Miguel's Romances is part of his series of records of classic Boleros. This time around, he hired Bebu Silvetti as musical director and arranger and Armando Manzanero as artistic director. Those two musicians wrote two new songs to augment the 13 classic love ballads from Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, and their impeccable taste, along with Miguel's seductive vocals, make Romances a sensuous, enchanting album.

The title for Luis Miguel's 1999 pop album Amarte Es un Placer translates to "Loving You Is a Pleasure," and by that alone one can deduce that the material consists of romantic music, mostly in the form of ballads. His previous pop album, 1996's Nada Es Igual, had elements (albeit small) of hip-hop and dance, but this one steers almost completely into adult contemporary terrain...

El Concierto is a double disc set of Luis Miguel's greatest hits performed live in concert. Miguel throws in a couple of Mexican and mariachi standards that haven't appeared on his album, making the package a necessity for fans. In fact, El Concierto works as a good introduction to the singer, since it features his biggest hits and he gives a flashy, impassioned performance which shows why he is one of Latin music's biggest stars.

The usual smooth, well-crafted pop ear candy from Luis Miguel, earnestly sung over strings and polite Latin rhythms. This may be a concept CD: each tune title is preceded by a year, which one assumes refers to its year of composition or original release. There are printed lyrics, albeit in a totally different song order, and no liner notes explain what we are to make of this presentation. Ultimately, it doesn't matter...the title of the release says it all.
