Lynyrd Skynyrd Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

The post-comeback output of classic Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd now significantly outnumbers the five albums recorded by the original line-up before the tragic 1977 plane crash that cost them several key members, including vocalist Ronnie Van Zant. Their work since then has been solid and workmanlike, while remaining true to their legacy...

Roadrunner Southern rock progenitors Lynyrd Skynyrd have finally crafted an album that can stand up to the band's early canon, back when founding lead singer Ronnie Van Zant penned songs of uncommon depth and perception that showed the trajectory from ruin to redemption in the complicated souls of life beneath the Mason Dixon line...

Sound: Lynyrd Skynyrd's 13th studio album, "Last Of A Dyin' Breed", is a strong release for the world of southern rock. There are 11 tracks on the album, with a runtime of approximately 45 minutes - which is a pretty respectable length for a new album. There is a "Special Edition" version of the album with an additional 4 tracks that adds about 15 minutes to the total runtime of the album...

The eponymous track of Lynyrd Skynyrd's 13th studio album opens with a tease of gritty gusto -- a skank-nasty slide riff a few ghostly notes short of Led Zep's "In My Time of Dying." But it's a promising misnomer for a track -- and album -- that slides head-first into painfully awkward, Bible-Belt, good-ole-boy, "Yeehaw!" country-rock...

Sound: If you think you're accustomed to Lynyrd Skynyrd projecting a "Southern way of life," you haven't heard anything yet. While songs like "Free Bird" and "Simple Man" had somewhat of a universal appeal, the band's 12th studio album God & Guns will likely be more polarizing than anything. Lynyrd Skynyrd's approach to music is now aligned with a country music approach, both musically and lyrically...

Sound: The classic southern rock sound again with super songs that we all love, The guitar solos fit excellently in all of the songs, and you will never get sick of it, They make fantastic use of ronnie's singing on this great CD, you have got a lot of songs from rock to country, this CD is typical Lynyrd Skynyrd fan's dream, and you couldn't ask for much more (except for more songs)...

Sound: The sound on Pronounced is definitely Lynyrd Skynyrd at their best. There is a very impressive variety of sounds on this album from the "three guitar army" to the heartfelt words sung by Ronnie Van Zant. From the hard-rocking Free Bird to the bluesy Thing's Goin' On, there is not one song on this album that isn't great. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics on Pronounced are very real...

Sound: The classic southern rock sound. Mostly electric guitars, drums, bass, and vocals. They experimented with a dobro in the song, "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", which fit perfectly considering that Curtis Loew played a dobro. The guitar solos fit excellently in all of the songs, and the songs never get too long or repeatitive. They make excellent use of all instruments on this CD, and go from slow, bluesy songs (such as "I Need You") to happy, upbeat songs (such as "Sweet Home Alabama")...
