Mack 10 is one of the best OG's (Original Gangsta's) in the game. He never made it out fully into the mainstream circle, Rolison's musical career has been hovering along the border of the underground indie scene for years. Bow down newbie rappers; he was a member of rap super group The Westside Connection, along with WC of the Maad Circle (Dub-C) and Ice Cube. Do I really need to break down information about Ice Cube...

Despite a surprisingly lengthy rap career, Inglewood, California's Mack 10 has always suffered from second-banana syndrome, whether debuting with the smash "Foe Life" in 1995 as Ice Cube's protégé or assuming the reverential new-jack role opposite Cube and WC in the supergroup Westside Connection. Hell, even his wife, R&B; megastar T-Boz of TLC, has more fans. Unfortunately, Mack's attempt to play patriarchal top cat to Da Hood, a five-man team of rhyme-spitting gangstas, falls flat...

If rap fans think of anything when they think of Mack 10, it's catchphrases. "Hoo bangin'." "Wessyde!" "Gun hoe Mack one-oh." "The chickenhawk." "Inglewood swangin'." The list goes on, as does Mack's prolific career. Since first being introduced to the rap world by Ice Cube on his self-titled debut in 1995, 10 has released 7 solo albums or compilations, not counting his Westside Connection album with Cube and W.C...

When Ice Cube first introduced the world to Mack 10 back in 1995, predicting he'd be around in 2001 after four successful albums would have been a longshot. Cube has over time introduced a variety of rappers to the hip-hop world with mixed results: Da Lench Mob, K-Dee and Mr. Short Khop among others...

Some praise for Mack 10 - he's been in the rap game for over 10 years. He's part of the Westside Connection, arguably the most successful "rap supergroup" from the West coast. He's had several popular hit singles over the years and was even married to that hottie T-Boz from TLC for a while (she filed for divorce in 2004 - status currently unknown). That being said you could also damn Mack 10 with faint praise. He's been around a long time, but he's never had overwhelming success...

If this Inglewood, Calif., native sounds like an Ice Cube protagé, that's because he is. His debut Mack 10 also draws heavily from '70s funk and R & B stars like Rick James and Earth, Wind & Fire. Still, Mack 10 has buoyancy, an eye for detail, and sneering vocals not unlike his platinum-selling producer's.

Although his name doesn't instantly spring to mind as one of the most notable performers to come out of the turbulent West Coast rap scene, Mack 10 still qualifies as legend enough to merit his own greatest hits album, Foe Life: The Best of Mack 10. As the artist responsible for having put his hometown of Inglewood on the map, standing along with Compton, Long Beach, and other sectors of the California hip hop community, this greatest hits package finally gives the underrated rapper his due...

Following his first release for Cash Money Records, West Coast rap legend Mack 10 steps into the role of executive on Presents da Hood. The album features Cali rappers K Mac, Deviossi, Skoop, Cousteau, and Techniec, all of whom are part of Mack's Hoo Bangin' roster. Other rappers who make appearances include Lil Jon, Ice Cube, the Cash Money Millionaires, and more. Among the album's many songs, the anthemic "L.A. fo Ya" stands out, as does "Hittin Switches...
