Matt and Kim never disappoint with their releases. Although the material is new they never betray their style - pop style synth, multiple layers of vocals and piano, heavy drums, ambient sounds, and lighthearted realistic lyrics. The content of this record is similar to previous ones talking about friendships, romances, and having a great time enjoying life. I've always been a fan of the seemingly simple and honest lyrics Matt & Kim bring to their work...

Release Date: October 2nd 2012 It's no surprise that indie-rock and indie-pop are two of my favorite genres, but what is surprising is that I don't have too many indie records being on my favorite records of all time list. Just a few are on the list. Regardless, there are plenty of indie bands I've never listened to, but have always wanted to. Brooklyn NY indie-pop duo Matt and Kim are one of those bands. I had the chance to pick up their latest record Lightning at a local FYE for $7...

The word "fun," when used in reference to music, is usually synonymous with "bad." Fans can overlook musical shortcomings if the performers appear to be having a good time. Not so in the case of Matt and Kim, who have the tunes to back up their goofy smiles...

On Lightning, not too much has changed for Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino since 2010's Sidewalks, which itself wasn't much different from 2009's Grand. This isn't to say that the keyboards and drums duo are repeating themselves, but their development is incremental rather than revolutionary. As usual, there are 10 tracks and the album lasts right around 30 minutes. Also as usual, Matt's melodies are bright and sticky, the kind that lodge in your head after only a couple of listens...

It's been two years since Sidewalks was released, and in that time the Brooklyn indie-pop duo of Matt Johnson and Kim Schifno has grown grander musically...without evolving lyrically. Throughout Lightning (aptly titled for its length), the listener is continually disappointed by sonically pleasing tracks with intricate piano/synth melodies and a driving tempo ("Not That Bad," "Overexposed") with unbelievably lackluster lyrics ("Tonight"). The upside...

If 'Sidewalks' is husband-and-wife duo Matt and Kim's vision of a perfect night on the tiles, then partying with them must be hellish. Its chart-pap melodies ('Good For Great') and sodden clichés ('Red Paint'), are reminiscent of being trapped at the worst kid's birthday party imaginable...

Summary: Matt and Kim kinda create their best record yet....cool beans. 4 of 5 thought this review was well written In the journey of accepting a band like Matt and Kim, one must accept the fact that this is a band that takes no fucking risks. I mean, really, this band is just constantly releasing the same goddamn homogenous indie pop records with those buzzy synthesizers and overzealous vocals...
