Matthew Good Reviews

Following the relative bombast of 2011's , a fully-orchestrated album that represented the fulfillment of one of his oldest and biggest recording ambitions, Matthew Good returns to more familiar territory with , a forty-two minute slab of punchy radio rock that blends his trademark stoic lyricism with a few more introspective moments...

Sound: Before I go on, I must clear one thing up. I was a huge Matthew Good Band fan, and had all their CD's. Matthew Good realeased this stellar debut solo album in 2003 with marginal sales success compared to his efforts with the band. This 13 track outfit has quite a few good songs, including the singles "Weapon," "In A World Called Catastrophe" and "Pledge Of Allegiance." Though some tracks in this CD are an acquired taste, most casual listeners will find this is a enjoyable disk...

Vancouver alt-rocker Matthew Good returned to long-time producer Warne Livesey for his ninth full-length (fifth post-solo career). It's an orchestral affair complete with viola, bassoon, cor anglais and horns, and Good has said that the two discussed making a project like it years ago while mixing 1997's Underdogs. Parts of it sound lifted from a gothic rock opera, with quieter piano pop interludes in between...

Summary: What if I can't see the point Matthew? 6 of 6 thought this review was well written The production concept behind Canadian rock musician Matthew Good's latest offering, the rather enigmatically-titled Lights of Endangered Species, was first birthed over 14 years ago...

Avalanche functions as a critique of modern consumer society and articulates the general overwhelming state of the world (and there are also a few songs about girls for good measure). Fans of Matthew Good will enjoy this album as his intense vocals and driven minor chords are predictably unpredictable...

This compilation summarizes the last 10 years of musical output by this fiery and at times cantankerous Canadian indie rocker. What's most interesting is that the song order starts with the most recent (two new songs) and works its way back in time to 1991 (the previously unreleased Pony Boy). As the ever-evolving Good prepares to embark on a new phase of his career, this release provides a solid overview of his first decade as a professional musician...

What distinguishes a Matthew Good album is the man's warbling and imploring voice. On his eighth album (fourth solo), Good employs hometown Vancouver as the backdrop for 10 new songs. Content-wise, Good continues to balance personal tales (On Nights Like Tonight) and social commentary (The Vancouver National Anthem). The album is filled with slow-burning tracks with ringing guitars, swelling orchestra strings and anthemic choruses, as heard on The Boy Who Could Explode or Us Remains Impossible...

Sound: Disc #1 was a collection of killer matthew good and matthew good band songs. it had everything you want in a matt good greatest hits, and then some. The first new track, oh be joyful, is fun to listen too, I just found that I got tierd of it quickly, (possibly due to playing it too much). The second new track, big city life is actually a new favorite of mine. I think that it is very well written song and is a very good piece. Other than those two it's all Matt Good from the old days...

Sound: The sound sounds like everything Matt Good is known for. As usual the music is well put together and thoughtful. On this album he claims that he's going back to his roots with the music that influenced him and on this album it shows. Beautiful music. This album is something that matt good fans probably won't be disappointed with. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: Comparing this to "avalanche" the lyrics are the same but different at the same time...
