I'm not really into pop-rock music anymore. That might be a shock to the people who know me/follow me on Twitter, but it's true - the oversaturation of the genre has really turned me off to the entire sound. Despite all of my preconceived notions about this style of music, Mayday Parade always seem to write an album that needles its way into my heart...

Sound: "Mayday Parade" can easily be described as "the Gods of the Pop-Punk genre". From there debut, "A Lesson In Romantics", followed by the slightly less but still quite good "Anywhere But Here" all the way to the newest self-titled release "Mayday Parade" have proved time and time again that they fit in the stereotypes of Pop-Punk but they don't fit them in the negative way other bands might fit the genre...

Sound: Mayday Parade is a band that is known to their fans, actaully the entire music industry alike, to be something different then current mainstream pop/punk bands. They bring to the table not one, not two, but three lead singers. A feat that is very hard indeed. Mayday Parade knows how to go from straight up rock your face off (without ever going down that all too familiar road of emo/screamo) too a more slow, mello, almost haunting ballad or just a laid back, fun song...

Release Date: October 4th, 2011 "Oh well, oh well I still hope for the best" are among the first words Derek Sanders sings on Mayday Parade's brand new album. Being the bands third full length LP and second post-Lancaster release, Mayday Parade find themselves at a crucial point in their career. Following up a debut record such as A Lesson In Romantics proved to be something the band had underestimated to an extent when putting out the sophomore Anywhere But Here...

Anytime a band self-titles an album, it feels like said is trying to make a statement. No frills, no bells & whistles, just what the band does best. And it definitely sounds like what Mayday Parade is trying to accomplish on their third full-length. Their major label debut, 2009's Anywhere But Here, turned out to be an album many fans wanted anywhere but in their ears...
