"Atmospheric side tangents aside, 'Rise of the Elder Ones' is essentially old-school death metal brought closer into the modern era, but without sacrificing those big booming blast beats or guttural growls." Leaving Napalm Records after the 2010 album "The Return of the Witch," the Canadian Necronomicon (not to be confused with the long-running German thrash act of the same name) is now with new label home Season of Mist to bring about the "Rise of the Elder Ones...

Quebec blackened death metal trio Necronomicon return with their new album, , their fourth full-length and follow-up to 2010's . Having gone through some label troubles in the past, marks the band's first release with Season of Mist, and it also introduces new bassist Armaros. Right from the start, with the onslaught of "Resurrection," it's clear Necronomicon are feeling a sense of stability, as the track blazes with extreme, fast riffs and blasting drums carried out with effortless precision...

And more importantly, it's in packaging that folds out into a giant cross, just like the original LP sleeve apparently did!! Wow...

At last, again, reissued: a masterpiece of suicidal, political Krautrock heaviosity from 1972. NECRONOMICON. Freaky then, freaky now. Psychedelic hard rock that was about as 'extreme' as it got at the time...definitely if Terrorizer magazine had existed back then, these Germans would have made the cover...
