Nekromantix Reviews

With Nick 13 off murdering Tiger Army classics and doing his best impersonation of a pre-war Elvis Presley, Nekromantix's goofy psychobilly sound is now the genre's dominant form. Naturally, What Happens In Hell, Stays In Hell throws that sound through a bit of a loop. This is a veteran band ? or, more precisely, a veteran frontman with a new backing band ? exploring their rockabilly roots...

Recently it seems as though the psychobilly scene has been slumping a bit. But with the legendary Nekromantix back in the picture after a long four year gap - perhaps this is the start of a revival. After twenty-two years and eight albums, the band face the ever difficult task of producing an album that strikes a balance between sounding fresh while still maintaining their sound. It seems that their new album What Happens in Hell, Stays in Hell does just that...

Countrified psychobilly band Nekromantix may not have invented the genre, but they've been around for more than two decades. On this eighth album, they haven't lost their devilish power, reminding us of Reverend Horton Heat's first efforts...

Never quite sleazy, unhinged, contaminated or corrosive enough to conjure psychobilly's hellacious setting, on What Happens In Hell, Stays in Hell Nekromantix have provided a clean shaven account of their beloved sub-genre when something a little more radical was needed to restore relevance to the antiquated sound of bluesy horror-punk...

Sound: 13 bone chilling songs that will satisfy any Ghoul! From the beginning we see the Nekromantix do what they do best play pure psychobilly! Some of the highlights of the album must be "Who Kill The Cheerleader," "Trick Or Treat" and "Haunted Cathouse" each song differs each other each played with different. The band style is very unique they blend rockabilly, surf, punk rock with B-scream movie themes and monster...

Sound: The sound is amzing, Nekromantix put a lot of work into this album, and it shows. The record is one of the best I've ever heard. With clashes of sounds like Psychobilly, Nekrobilly, and Metalbilly, it's a good listen. When you pop it in the CD player, you will hear a wide variety of sounds. The lovely click of Nekromans Coffinbass gives the sound of the album a speedy sound. If you have never heard of Nekromantix, pick up this album, and while your at it, get Dead Girls Don't Cry as well...

After taking a few years off from the premiere psychobilly band he fronts (and which can be given a huge amount of credit for kicking off the psychobilly craze that has since become almost clich?) to play with his wife in the Horrorpops, Kim Nekroman got the Nekromantix out of hibernation and back into the studio. Life Is A Grave & I Dig It!!...

Maybe the Nekromantix were a great idea that is running out of steam only now, as they release their sixth album, Return of the Loving Dead, the first to be released here in the States. I'm sure there are quite a few fans of the band here who have purchased their previous albums as imports, and they may well tell me I don't know what I'm talking about...

Nekromantix rise from the crypt once more to grasp rockabilly by the horns and drag it down into the sepulcher. "Life Is a Grave & I Dig It!," the band gleefully sing out on the title track of this long-player, just one of a slew of wildly anthemic numbers within...
