Nicki Minaj Reviews

Summary: The Re-Up won't convert anybody who dislikes her, but it's ultimately the edition with more bang for your buck if you're a fan of Miss Minaj. 8 of 8 thought this review was well written The title of Nicki Minaj's sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded sort of gave the impression that it could be considered an expansion of her debut Pink Friday, and that would be completely plausible with the two albums not being too different from each other...

Well, now it's official: the title of every record Nicki Minaj ever makes will include the title of every other record she's ever made. This box set contains a reissued Reloaded plus a 33-minute addendum, The Re-Up; the eight new tracks sound a lot more like the first album -- where Minaj entered as a tough girly-girl who loves to sing pop songs as much as she loves to cut off heads -- than the second one -- where she pretended to be a manly-man who loves to have hits as much as he loves to...

Nicki Minaj could be accused of many things, but never stinginess. The Re-Up is a bumper three-disc set featuring this year's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album, a DVD of promo videos and an EP of new tracks. It's a classy alternative to the usual 'deluxe' reissue, delivering new material between albums. The Re-Up also seems to have an ulterior motive...

With "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up," Nicki Minaj aims to grab those detractors back. On "The Re-Up," Minaj looks to have her cake and eat it too. In one of the most notable Hip Hop news bits of the year, Hot 97 radio personality Peter Rosenberg called out Nicki Minaj's song "Starships" as "bullshit," and said it wasn't "real Hip Hop...

Nicki Minaj's sophomore effort, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, was an obvious attempt to sate both the singer-rapper's hip-hop and pop contingents, with hard-hitting collaborations with 2 Chainz and Rick Ross juxtaposed with Red One's garish brand of Eurotrash. That bloated, disjointed mess was, perhaps, the result of gripes from genre purists that Minaj's debut was too commercial, but the original Pink Friday was a competently crafted blend of rap and pop that, even when it skewed to one extreme...

A lot has happened in the seven months since Nicki Minaj issued her sophomore effort, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded." The pop-rap minx has gone on her first headlining tour, issued a perfume (a clothing line is also in the works) and joined the judges' panel on "American Idol." As her profile continues to rise, Minaj has also seen her artistry scrutinized...

Just when you thought it couldn't get anymore confusing... Are you ready for more "Pink Friday" from Nicki Minaj? It's not the first one, but a second version of the second one, making it the third one. But not the official third one, not even a "Remix ? no no, this is a "Re-Up" (to use the "drugs have nothing to do with this album" terminology). Basically, there is an all-new eight-track EP added separately, in addition to the original nineteen-song album released earlier this year...

It is not enough to just like Nicki Minaj, you have to pick sides as well. Minaj's fanbase has its own spectrum of pop ideologies: at one extreme are the hip-hop fanatics that speak of the glorious mixtape heydays; at the other pop conservatives staunchly defending her club hits; and cowering somewhere in between are those that like her R&B jams. That's not really true of course, there are no summits where fractions of her supporters meet to try and work things out...
