Omarion Reviews

Wasup? For the second American winter in a row, Omarion has blessed us with a "care package". Thankfully, we can enjoy this album during our summer time a little bit more than we did the first offering as this mixtape sounds less like a "cuffing season jams" compilation.("Cuffing Season". Urban Dictionary). This time around, the mixtape is hosted by one of the only people on earth who can challenge DJ Khaled to a shouting contest, Don Cannon...

Prior to signing with Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group in 2012, sensual crooner Omarion struggled to find his footing in the ever-evolving world of R&B. His most recent release, Care Package 2 (a follow-up to 2012's Care Package), is a step in the right direction. The nine tracks attempt to strike a balance between his trademark R&B sound and today's often brooding futurism, but also reveal that he is still figuring out his role as MMG's slow-jam connoisseur...

MMG's resident crooner Omarion has released a free EP, entitled Care Package. Featured on the nine-track project are previously-featured selections "M.I.A" and "Admire." Guest features include Joe Budden, Problem, Tank and Trae The Truth, while production is provided by Beat Boy, The Beat Bully and more.

After Omarion's brief stint over at Young Money (that lasted all but one month), the former lead singer of B2K steps back into world, (braid-less) and with his third solo album in Ollusion. It was rumored that he was dropped from Lil Wayne's stable for leaking the song 'Get It In' that features the "so-called" best rapper alive, but the younger brother of Marques Houston dismissed that claim, and reworked 'Get It In,' and with it now featuring an incarcerated Gucci Mane instead...

As the former front man of the once white-hot boy-band B2K, Omarion was faced with the quandary that many younger performers from various genres find themselves up against: retaining their original audience while making creating a new legacy as a stand-alone solo artist. So far, he's managed to be more successful than expected, with his debut and sophomore CD's debuting at Number One and multiple film roles (You Got Served, Fat Albert, Feel the Noise)...

A onetime member of the R&B; boy band B2K, Omarion has spent the last few years stuck in label limbo. As a result, some of the material on Ollusion, the overdue follow-up to 2006's 21, feels a little bit dated. "I Think My Girl Is Bi"? Someone alert Katy Perry...

In an R&B field crowded with way too many young would-be Ushers, Omarion is distinguished mainly by the sound of his voice: a nasal, head-cold tone flecked with some crackle and grit, which stands apart from the ultra-smoove stylings of Mario, Chris Brown and other competitors...

For 21, his second solo effort, the former leader of teen R&B; idols B2K has done what any savvy ex-boy-bander would do these days: call Timbaland. Pop music's Midas provides a gently glitchy beat for the second single, "Ice Box"; Omarion's no Justin, but he wraps his reedy voice around those stuttering synths with considerable style. He gives similarly solid performances over the club-ready creations of the Neptunes and other producers...

It's tempting to lump the former frontman of teen R&B; sensations B2K in with the herd of mono-monikered Usher wannabes. But as the fans who lofted O to No. 1 last week could tell you, there's more to Omarion Grandberry than that. The ballads on this solo debut have way too muchwhipped cream, but there are some surprisingly tough touches of funk andcrunk ("Drop That Heater," the Missy-esque "Take It Off"). And "Growing Pains" is a farewell to his former bandmates that's actually kinda touching.
