Sound: The band's music is a little hard to explain. Most of it is written my frontman Jimmy Gnecco, often compared to the great Jeff Buckley (RIP). He does everything quite well, from upbeat pop-rockers to slow ballads. Gnecco's voice is the focal point of the album, as he has great range, and uses his falsetto to great use throughout. This is Ours' second album, though there was about 7-8 years difference from the original debut, and a follow up to this was released a year after this...

The debut album from new York's Ours is a grand, melancholy stunner in the tradition of Radiohead and Jeff Buckley. As a singer, Jimmy Gnecco isn't afraid of Buckley-style melodrama, if only because he's got the pipes to pull it off. Whether he's stretching his falsetto into its uppermost register or venting a pitch-perfect primal scream, Gnecco has an operatic voice that could make angels weep...

Jimmy Gnecco hails from northern New Jersey, a place where hair metal never died, but the frontman of Ours clearly spent his teen years locked away with U2 records; soaring, dramatic vocals with single note underpinnings dominate his band's second album, Precious. Gnecco's voice is a beautiful instrument, huge and emotional but never cloying, though he occasionally ascends beyond Jeff Buckley territory to where only dogs can hear him...

Beginning with the recording of a buzz-garnering major label debut (2001's Distorted Lullabies), Ours genius Jimmy Gnecco forged a brand of darkly anthemic rock, blending the sounds of past masters like U2 and Jeff Buckley. 2002's Precious raised the bar with blistering cuts like "Kill the Band" and "Realize", while "Places" remains one of the decade's most affecting ballads you've never heard. Following extensive touring throughout 2003, however, Ours pretty much fell off the map...

Ours frontman Johnny Gnecco is a shy boy. As is sometimes the case with such artists, he overcompensates. Thus his band's debut feels emotionally domineering, with Gnecco's Bono-like yowl and histrionic guitar demanding that you perpetually feel something, anything. All this can be exhausting. By the time the tenth overcast tune, "Dizzy," rolls around, complete with the prosaic line "How come we hurt the ones we need?" we've been through more heartache than Dick Cheney...
