Ozzy Osbourne Reviews

With the book "I Am Ozzy" Osbourne has already written his memoir but fans have a chance with this 2-DVD set to see some of his solo career play out through performance and also hear Ozzy being candid in interview segments that were taped between 1981 and 2010. Some of this material was previously available on now out-of-print VHS but mostly this is stuff that'll be new to the viewer...

People mock Ozzy Osbourne for lots of things: his permanent inability to do anything on stage but shuffle around and clap his hands, his tremulous Brummie monotone, his quarter-tone-flat vocals. But, as this set reminds us, his career has been a truly remarkable one, even if you discount his phenomenal body of work with Black Sabbath.

Whereas the original live double-album consisted, for contractual reasons, entirely of Black Sabbath material, this superior version - previously only available in Japan - shows a complete concert filmed for MTV in June 1982. Ozzy's at the height of his power and notoriety as a solo artist, despite having recently suffered the loss of guitarist Randy Rhoads - ably replaced here by Night Ranger's Brad Gillis - during the tour for Diary Of A Madman. It's a great concert...

Sound: I bought this CD, just because I love Sabbath and Ozzy. I was looking forward to hearing Ozzy cover such classics as "Mississippi Queen" and "Sunshine Of Your Love." And to be quite honest he did well, but not as well as I expected it to be. Jerry Cantrell (alice in chains) played on the guitar, did decently, I love Zakk and I guess that is why I did not love this album as much as maybe Ozzmosis...

Sound: This album was made in 1987 to honor the late great Randy Rhoads. It contains the only live recordings of Randy. The recordings came from the Diary of a Madman Tour, which is the tour that Randy passed away on. It is a very hard rock record, but it also contains a bit of classical, seeing as it is Randy. Everyone sounded great, including Ozzy...

Sound: Ozzy's 1991 release "No More Tears" was the second album featuring guitarist Zakk Wylde. Comparing to his first album with Ozzy 1988's "No Rest For The Wicked" this album is a lot heavier. "No More Tears" was supposed to Ozzy's last studio record and was calling it quits after the tour and release "Live And Loud" (We all know that didn't last long). "No More Tears" contained some of Ozzy's best songs as a solo artist and four songs co-written by Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister...

Sound: If you pick up a copy of Black Rain and think that you're buying another Blizzard of Ozz style album, then you may be disappointed. In my honest opinion, this album is not traditional Ozzy (IE. Blizzard of Ozz, Diary of a Madman, Randy Rhoads Tribute) but it's still Ozzy, in a more modern sense. The majority of the heavier songs sound like they have more of a "Thunder Underground" or "Gets Me Through" vibe to them than anything else...

Sound: The tracks are very much hard rock. With Randy Rhoads Ozzy made his most legendary tracks. "I Don't Know" and "Crazy Train" are still very populoar live tracks, no wonder: they have good lyrics and they're fast ones. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: I Don't Know - The opener is a hard rocking assault that is sure to please any fan of the genre. This LP version has an intro that is cut from the radio version. Crazy Train - Here it is - the song that made Ozzy a household name...

Sound: Damn, there is one word right there that sums up this compilation, every song is amazing, from the first "all aboard" that Ozzy shouts at the beginning of "Crazy Train" on Disc 1, it never stops. Ozzy has employed some of the best metal guitarist in history, Randy Rhoads is on the first 9 tracks of the album showing why he is a Guitar Legend with classic solos on "Crazy Train" and "Mr...
