Pat McGee Band Concert Tickets

Work ethic. It is not a term you would normally associate with contemporary music, where memorable performances, on stage and in the studio, are just supposed to happen with effortless spontaneity. The reality, of course, is that the best music is the result of dedication, determination and the constant quest to go beyond the good to grasp the great. Pat McGee Band Reviews

The tragic death of drummer Chris Williams cast a shadow over the release of Pat McGee Band's 2006 concert DVD Vintage Stages Live, and his memory looms large over These Days (The Virginia Sessions) too.Yet, McGee has clearly decided not to wallow in what must be interminable grief...

Along with Hootie and the Blowfish, Sister Hazel and Edwin McCain, Pat McGee Band formed part of the explosion of heartland rock acts that found national prominence in the late 1990s and early '00s.Vintage Stages Live was supposed to be a celebration of the success the band has enjoyed over the past 10 years, but the death of drummer Chris Williams late last year means that this DVD/CD combo is being released on a more somber note...

Following the end of Pat McGee Band's major label deal with Warner Bros., the band has signed with Kirtland Records and re-released Save Me, complete with extra acoustic bonus tracks.Taking such a step is quite unusual, but the quality of the rootsy, yet slick and highly commercial music evident on Save Me probably convinced the band's new label bosses that the record had not reached its potential previously, and so deserved a second chance...

Imagine Pat Metheny meets Robert Earl Keen. Then make that combination really toe-tappingly happy. Maybe a more apt description of the Pat McGee Band would be the Spin Doctors married and with children. Quite honestly, I had never heard of the Pat McGee band before this CD arrived. I don't have any promotional material nor any liner notes, but with a little listening and then a little surfing I soon discovered the PMB phenomena, something storming colleges across the East Coast...

Perhaps because it is a live album, General Admission does a 180 degree turn from the Pat McGee Band's overly complex musical noodling on their second album, Revel, and marks a return to the straight-ahead acoustic rock that helped make McGee's first album enjoyable. The musicianship has improved here, and the band sounds relaxed and professional in front of its adoring fans.

Giant Records must be hoping it has another Dave Matthews Band on its hands with the Pat McGee Band, another outfit formed by a Virginia-based singer/songwriter that issued several albums on its own label and built up a regional following by touring extensively. But the McGee Band is stylistically a little closer to an earlier Virginia model, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, than it is to Matthews...

Working in the same FM realm as Train, Goo Goo Dolls, and Counting Crows, the Pat McGee Band utilize a capable blend of wistful romanticism and mid-tempo balladry to weave a web of sound that rarely offends. Their fifth release, Save Me, finds the Virginia natives expounding on their simplistic notions of love and love lost, resulting in a recording that breaks little new ground but achieves its overall goal of existing...

Revel, the first album that Pat McGee recorded with an extended lineup, messes with the one thing that made his first album worthwhile -- its simplicity. His slightly sappy lyrics seemed forgivable on From the Record when they were backed only by a skeleton crew of musicians -- now that everything is overblown, they seem bloated with sentiment...
