Rancid Reviews

When the Interrupters got on stage on July 26, 2013 at the Hollywood Palladium, they were all wearing white dress shirts, thin black ties and black slacks. At first I was skeptical. This was the first time I had heard of them, but I decided to keep an opened mind anyway. The band had a cool ska-punk sound and pretty good anti-police, anti-TSA, anti-NSA and pro-liberty and pro-freedom lyrics. That being said, The Interrupters have a lot of growing as a band to do...

Sound: Rancid's third LP, ...And Out Come the Wolves, was definately a record to remember. The sound quality was amazing (compared to their Operation Ivy stuff, but pretty similar to Let's Go). There are no unwanted noises, you can hear every instrument perfectly, and you can hear Tim's slurred vocals amazingly (If you have the album's lyrics that is). Here's a bit of background info...

Sound: This CD has changed Rancid's sound once again from the previous albums Rancid and Lets Go. Indestructible resembles And Out Come The Wolves in terms of sound, and is poppier than other albums. I dont believe that it was their intention to create a more mainstream sound. Although some songs in the album have much more strength and anger compared to other albums. Tims guitar has a great sound and the solo in David Courtney is great...

Sound: This is a great CD. Rancid is probably one of the least known of the punk revival bands from the early nineties(the other punk revival bands were Green Day and the Offspring). They have much more of an original punk sound. They sound a lot like Minor Threat and you can tell Minor Threat must have influenced them. The music is very fast(just like Minor Threat). The guitar isn't the most skillful, but that is what made Punk Punk. I also loved how you could really hear the bass...

Sound: It has been a gap of almost six years since the punk juggernaut that is Rancid released their last album Indestructible. However, that is not to say by any means that the boys have been idle in that time. In fact, the Rancid lads have been anything but idle...

Sound: The sound of this album isn't like any other Rancid album, the sound is amazing. I've been listening to Rancid for almost 12 years, and this album is off the wall punk. With a straight forward assault of ear shattering riffs that would send any metal head running. This is an album for any punk fan. Their sound is off the wall in this album, Matt Freemans basslines are an extreme driving force behind Rancid sound. And Brett Reed shows a lot of flash and skill with his kit on this album...

Can four Oakland, Calif., natives with ridiculous mohawks makea better Clash record than London Calling? Hard to believe, butwith their third CD, ... AND OUT COME THE WOLVES (Epitaph),Rancid does just that, one-upping the British group by movingbeyond brute-force punk without forfeiting urgency. No Americanband has ever mined this much effortless power out of Jamaicanrhythms...

Fans of And Out Came the Wolves' Clash-inspired pop hooks might wince at the blistering hardcorefound here on Rancid's self-titled album, but this collection of urgent, gravel-voiced anthemsis one of the most vital things the punk world has coughed up inyears. At a time when "punk" doofuses Blink 182 score hitsingles, these 38 minutes of warp-speed passion prove how greatthe real thing can still be. A-

Whether safety-pinned proudly to the vests of mohawked Warped Tour attendees or plastered on CD covers in the Rock/Pop sections of chain stores, apologists of the genre are quick to assert that "Punk's not dead." You can spell it with an "x" if you want. However, last year saw Pennywise release an album with MySpace Records and NOFX air a documentary on Fuse. Ten years ago, both situations would have been unthinkable...
