"I want your lips/I even want your tongue, love": Melvin Riley Jr. puts into words the erotic aspirations that have motivated love men since the first falsetto seduction. From wet ballad to videogame beat, the Prince influence is so palpable it's almost comic and so brazen it could take your breath away. But where Prince thinks sex is nasty, Melvin makes nice-nice. La-la means he'll fuck you.

How long, oh Lord, how long? An official 47:28, which comes (as they say) to 4:45 per cut, almost every one a slow if not sluggish grind. And with "Mary Goes Round" insisting that sluts need not apply, 6:29 of "Love You Down" is all a good girl needs.

Ready For The World scored three more chart hits with their second album, including another number one R&B; hit and Top 10 pop song in "Love Me Down." They continued to milk the funk/pop/Prince connection, and Melvin Riley's vocals hadn't grated on enough people's nerves to derail their success yet.

Ready For The World couldn't recapture their mid-'80s magic with this early-'90s set. They were out of touch with the changes on the black music scene and couldn't adapt to hip-hop, New Jack, or dancehall. They also sounded disorganized, and had substandard material and production as well. This was a dismal effort from one of the hottest groups of the mid-'80s.
