Rise Against Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

I am probably not the best person to be reviewing a Rise Against album, mainly because I will probably be heavily biased. I have enjoyed (read, 'worshipped'), Rise Against since I first came across their music some eight or nine years ago. was released 10 years ago, and it was the first album written as the Rise Against we know today. It is amazing how an album that was made a decade ago, is still relevant and representative of the problems we face in the world today...

Rise Against's second record, Revolutions Per Minute, was an album almost perfectly of its time. It was a mix of personal and national politics, delivered with the fire of hardcore punk and the melodies of suddenly huge world of pop-punk. It was also an album about big lies told by big folks in power and the small yet important ways individuals push back. This was a strong post-9/11 sentiment, especially in 2003 as we were preparing to invade and get stuck in Iraq...

In order to appreciate the 10th anniversary reissue of Rise Against's Revolutions Per Minute, it's important to regain context about the era from which it came-and the new era in which it ushered. Melodic hardcore as we've come to know it didn't exist back then, save a few outliers who'd gain ground after Rise Against popularized the genre...

Release Date: March 15th, 2011 Rise Against is one of those bands that I wish I had gotten into a lot sooner. I've heard of them for a very long time, but I never checked them out until last summer when Best Buy had a promotion for a few weeks of certain records being on sale. Rise Against's last record Endgame was one of them, and I had been very curious about them, so I figured I'd pick it up for about $4.99. That's a great deal, if you ask me, and I don't regret my decision at all...

Sound: Rise Against is back with a new record, and while it's not as heavy as any of their previous efforts, it's definitely what you can expect from them. The punk influence has decreased over the years, but their music has become increasingly melodic. Every track (save the acoustic one) just makes you want to move. There isn't really any new musical innovations but you can definitely tell the difference between this record and previous ones due to the addition of new guitarist Zach Blair...

Sound: Rise Against were spoken about a lot lately -? first due to the change of their guitarist -? ex-Reach the Sky Chris Chasse replaced Dan Precesion, then their move from the indie label Fat Wreck Chords to Dreamworks, which have been widely discussed. And of course, when it comes to Rise Against, everybody remembers that there are two different ways of playing punk ?- political and none-political. Of course Rise Against belongs to the first clan of punk music...

Sound: On Revolutions Per Minute, the sound Rise Against had on The Unraveling becomes more redifined and has more of a "trademarked" sound. Tim's screaming is more crisp and clear, the solos are a lot better and more common, and the band is so in sync with each other it's amazing. My favorite tracks are "Black Masks And Gasoline", "Like the Angel", "Broken English", "Blood Red White And Blue" and "Amber Changing"...

Sound: "The Unraveling" is Rise Against's first ever recording. It was released in April 2001, but has since been re-released with extensive liner notes and two bonus tracks. There are 18 songs in total, and the two bonus songs are called "Join The Ranks" and "Gesthemene." The re-release has been remastered, so the songs sound much better then they would've from the old recording technology of '01...

Sound: The CD itself is something to behold. I hear all three of their previous albums in it. From the intro-slides of "The Unraveling", to the statement makers from "Revolutions Per Minute" and the anthems of "Siren Song Of The Counter Culture", it's all here and executed flawlessly. The CD has a political side, and a relationship side. They blend well. 01. Chamber The Cartridge - a solid song. A decent opener. It doesn't leave a memorable mark on me, but I like it. 02. Injection - here we go...
