Folks these days are pretty tech-savvy, and we tend to forget that only a few decades ago, something as simple as electricity could send the general populace into a tizzy. Likewise, for the average indie rock fan, a vocalist who actually sings is pretty damn quaint; today's singers are really shouters. How things have changed...

All of The Pioneers '30s-era compilations are fine, but this includes Bob Nolan's darkest and most beautiful song, "Blue Prairie."

Like the rest of the albums in this RCA mid-priced reissue series, this was a nice idea badly executed. A paltry 18 songs spread over two long-playing discs, and featuring "Cool Water" and "Riders In the Sky" from the 1940's, but no "Tumbling Tumbleweeds...

More romance of the range ("Don't Fence Me In"), as well as straight romantic ballads ("I Love You Truly") and country songs, as well as re-recordings of old standards.

A 10-song budget reissue of some of the Pioneers' 1940's and mid-1950's songs, all in a romantic vein.

Solid harmony singing as usual, and some excellent songs, including modern covers of "South of the Border" etc. Recorded in August of 1962, this album featured the first appearance of guitarist Roy Lanham as a member of the Pioneers, and Wade Ray appears on back-up fiddle. By this time, the group's arrangements were very slick and modern, and far more sophisticated than the original trio or their 1950's successors...

The Pioneers' second gospel collection, esentially an expanded version of Cowboy Hymns and Spirituals, comprised of recordings done in 1947 up through 1956, with Bob Nolan the common thread through most of it.

Another nostalgic journey through the west, featuring "Bonaparte's Retreat," "Gone, " "Left My Gal in the Mountains, " and "Born To Lose, " among others, performed by the then current group.

The last recordings of the group with Karl Farr, from April of 1961, with the group in excellent voice, especially on the title track.
