After more than twenty years together, Scott Weiland was unceremoniously fired from Stone Temple Pilots in February earlier this year. The band cited addition problems and persistent tardiness as reasons for his dismissal. Within a few months, STP announced that Linkin Park's Chester Bennington would be their new vocalist. This is the first new material from the band since their 2010 self-titled album...

Sound: STP's sound on their second album "Purple" is grungey most of the time and almost always has a great hook, which means you get to sing it in your mind for a month. When their not grungy their pop sensabilities shine, and I hate to say the genre "Pop" and associate it with one of the greatest alternative Rock bands of the 90's and the 21st century...

Sound: Dean once said in an interview session on their website, that Tiny Music Songs from the Vatican Giftshop, was recorded on a property basically out in the middle of nowhere with acres of expanse and that it was probably the best time in their lives (and that it was a shame Scott didn't get to enjoy it as much as they did). And you can certainly tell that the band seems very well glued together, turning jazz chords, mellow bass, controlled drumming and a mix of Purple/No...

Sound: The Deleo brother's tone was in it's prime in the 11 songs on this CD. Dean's riffs on "Sour Girl" and "Heaven & Hotrods" were original as ever, using augmented and sustained chords to jazz it up a little. The solo on the first two tracks "Down" and "Heaven & Hotrods" were also well done. Robert always plays a fast-paced progressive bass part that especially shines in "Sour Girl". Eric Kretz plays the drums well, and keeps a good beat without being too over-the-top...

Sound: A hard driving album, that rightly launched the career of the Stone Temple Pilots. Full of incredible riffs that just never seem to get old. A second look at the drum lines on this album, prove the incredible talent of Eric Kretz. Everything on this album sounds and feels so right that it's almost surreal...

Sound: Stone Temple Pilots were a band that really left their mark on the rock world since their debut in 1992. Of their 5 studio albums, one of them reached no.1 whilst the other four all managed to reach top ten status. In addition to selling over seventeen million albums worldwide, they have released 14 singles and 6 of them were no. 1's and can still be heard on the radio today...

Could it really be that after decades of debauchery and drama, Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has finally settled down? If the lead track from the band's brand-new self-titled set is any indication, it might be safe to assume so. The album's redundant and predictable lead single, "Between the Lines," kicks off a surprisingly decent reunion album...

Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots. The '90s produced some memorable rock bands (albeit most short-lived), and this 15-song collection from Stone Temple Pilots would be testament to that. From the gritty rock clarity of Vasoline to the even more haunting acoustic resonance of Plush, STP had it all. Perhaps too much. Singer Scott Weiland still spends more time in rehab than in the studio...
