The Lumineers Reviews

The Lumineers have released their self titled debut album in April of this year. The folk-indie trio consists of Wesley, Jeremiah, and Neyla. Their sound has been compared to bands like Edward Sharpe and Mumford and Sons. I have a feeling you might also know them from their single, "Ho Hey". It's simpler than other songs on the album, as far as, the instrument playing. It still makes it a good sing along. Although, there are other songs on the album I wasn't too excited about...

Pounding folk debut album from Denver, Colorado-based trio... A rambunctious trio based, rather incongruously, in Colorado, The Lumineers create primal, pounding folk music which lead singer Wesley Schulz has likened to the sound of a "bunch of sailors on a ship, arm-in-arm". But it's not just that they make music worth hearing; in their lengthy slog to overnight success the band also have a tale worth telling...

The Lumineers are far from a new phenomenon, in spite of the hype and their chart-based achievements. Their success is rooted in familiarity, the band placing their own spin on a tried and true indie-folk formula. Citing Mumford & Sons, Bowerbirds, Slow Club and a million other contemporaries, they might just be riding a wave doomed to dissolve into the shoreline sooner rather than later. Their debut album flits between hits and misfires, all the while adhering to variations upon a theme...

Dualtone Denver-based trio The Lumineers are the latest band to come around in the recent wave of Americana folk-rock. Made up of two old friends from New Jersey (guitarist/singer Wesley Schultz and drummer Jeremiah Fraites) and a Denver native (cellist Neyla Pekarek), the group writes earnest, foot-stomping anthems that easily recall bands like The Avett Brothers and The Head and The Heart...

With its bootstrapping, raw acoustic energy radiating their passion and lyrical craftsmanship, The Lumineers' eponymous debut album marks the band's well-deserved territory in the indie-folk genre, despite the rash of recent neo-Americana acts. The Lumineers is an incredibly impressive opening statement from a band with a lot to say, but who is determined to say it with a level of emotional integrity that is bound to resonate across genre...

The Lumineers' debut record is instantly gratifying--and not in the hasty, shallow way often found in pre-fab pop songs either. While some records take days or months to properly digest, there's an instant connection here similar to that sonic euphoria many people found upon hearing their first roaring Mumford song, favorite Dylan lyric or perfect Head and The Heart harmony. The camaraderie is evident both onstage and on the record...
