Sound: I love the sound of this band, and this album. I sometimes find myself blocking out some of the lyrics just to listening to the guitar. Not that the lyrics are bad, or anything. The band doesn't do what Good Charlotte or Simple Plan does, and make it seem all horrible, and whiny, and so on. It's hard to put a label on their sound, (punk, emo, etc). But I do know that they are definatly not pop or anything of that sort. // 9 Lyrics and Singing: These are some awesome lyrics that I love...

Sound: Okay the sound is definitley pop punk at it's purest form. Simple and catchy. There's nothing wrong with simple, and it was okay. The CD is their first, and they did it with 15 which adds on some major props. I would definitley say this is one of the best EP's I've heard. The whole record is pretty much pop punk. My favorite song is def. the remake, it shows some of the talent these guys actually have. // 9 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics were pretty darn good...

Sound: For a couple years I've tuned into listening to The Starting Line and I have always loved there stuff. I started drumming to there first CD when it came out. They have been a milestone in their genre of music for teenagers, and me being apart of that statment, can say right away say I was highly anticipating this upcoming release of Direction...

Sound: It's sound is pretty good considering it's mostly a softer version of punk. I think the best part of the sound overall is that way the put the soft beats and soft guitar music together. Most of my favorties on here were the softer songs (The Best Of Me is a good example). The reason I like this band a lot is because it's one of those bands that you can listen to if you are sad but it's still rock so it still has a lot of feeling to it...

Sound: Sound is awesome. They put out a really good EP. The songs aren't just slapped together to keep the fans happy either. There are lots of catchy chorus's. The two acoustic guitars, and vocals really come together to put out a great EP. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics are bright and emotional just like TSL's previous stuff. And Kenny's voice just brings it all together. // 10 Impression: Good EP that's definately worth the money. I just wish it had more songs...

With the release of 2002's Say It Like You Mean It, a lot happened to The Starting Line. They toured heavily across the globe as a headliner, released a well received acoustic EP, and were picked up by a major label. On their major label debut, I was fully expecting The Starting Line to continue on with the same pop-punk sound and essentially release a Say It Like You Mean It, part 2. However, the end result, Based On A True Story, is something much different than that...

The merits of the live album have been cause for debate for as long as the format has existed. On the one hand it allows the listener the opportunity to experience a band in the context of a live concert without having to endure the inevitable mass of heaving sweaty bodies and the indignity of paying £5 for a pint of lukewarm lager...

I would have never given the Starting Line's debut EP a second thought except for their surprisingly enjoyable and enthusiastic cover of "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" (you know, Starship's ultra-cheesey, Diane Warren-penned hit from "Mannequin"). With that tidbit of power-pop encouraging me to give the EP another listen, I actually found the band's brand of Blink-182 and Get Up Kids-inspired hyperactive pop songs enjoyable...

And the reign of pop-punk continues. Sounding a great deal like labelmates New Found Glory, The Starting Line is the latest addition to this either exciting or nauseating trend, depending on how you look at it...
