This Will Destroy You Concert Tickets

This Will Destroy You was formed by guitarists Chris King and Jeremy Galindo, bassist Raymond Brown and drummer Andrew Miller in San Marcos, Texas, in 2005. They had met through mutual friends, and played together in various different bands throughout high school, before the line-up was finalised by around 2002. Early iterations of the band experimented with vocals, sung by Galindo, but after recording some tracks they decided the results were “awful” and didn’t fit in with the rest of their music. Proffering wordless communication in a manner that's more orchestral than classic rock, San Marcos' This Will Destroy You eschews solos and bears down on intense waves of sound on this old-fashioned double-live LP. "Communal Blood" and "Glass Realms" could be erupting from a symphony instead of four indie rock musicians, drums evoking timpani and gongs and guitars taking on timbres more in line with massive string sections than amplified instruments...

Every so often, a special kind of album comes along. It may not be played often, and it's only ever played in full, but when it does grace the speakers, you are absorbed. Tunnel Blanket is one of those albums. In their opening bars, This Will Destroy You create a gentle ambiance of an open void, which is then shattered by the drone of tortured machines. The drone motif recurs throughout the album, in danger of becoming overpowering; however, the quartet toes the line almost perfectly...

Tunnel Blanket is the second full length offering by Texan four-piece This Will Destroy You released by Monotreme Records. Having just received this album on the eve of a trip to Finland it proved to be the perfect accompaniment for driving through the forested wilderness. At times reminiscent of Tarantula A.D. the album meanders through a landscape of expressive and emotive beauty...

"F*** Post-Rock, and f*** being called Post-Rock!" When This Will Destroy You's bassist/keyboardist Donovan "Dono" Jones veraciously proclaimed this during an interview with The Boston Phoenix, it left a sour taste in my mouth. Not the good kind of sour, like when you're sucking down a Warhead candy lozenge, but the bad kind. Is this a bad label? What is inherently wrong about being associated with behemoth contemporaries like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, or Mogwai...

Goto commentsLeave a commentShare Post-music This Will Destroy You is a post-rock quartet from Texas, and they've created an outstanding dichotomy of beautiful melodies thrashed with a discordant myriad of sounds on Tunnel Blanket. With their second studio LP, the band has dropped the genre labels and has made their music a dynamic experience of sonic energy and sheer brilliance...

Post rock is something of a pedigree mongrel in the world of contemporary music, but one that has risen in popularity in recent years, resulting in a spate of combos treading the voiceless boards. Here we have a Texan quartet with an unwillingness to conform. Three guitars provoke anticipation of something heading towards metal, yet there are more moments of an ambient nature and some quite intricate passages...

What was apparent about This Will Destroy You's Young Mountain and the band's equally acclaimed self titled debut was that the records established the Texan band firmly into the post rock canon and defined a style that worked extremely well for them. But some felt TWDY were starting to push the auto pilot switch, not really adding anything new or groundbreaking to the genre, sounding like a copy and paste version of Mogwai, Caspian and 65daysofstatic...

Sound: In the tradition of bands such as explosions in the sky, mogwai, and mono, This Will Destroy You is a four piece instrumental band from Texas, relying on two guitars, a bass, drums, and piano/keyboard to create their sound. Much of their sound is derived from the bands I mentioned above, clean, shimmering guitars and moody melodies that guide the songs and create an atmospheric musical effect...

American Analog Set once delivered demos of Explosions in the Sky's debut to imprint Temporary Residence labeled, "This fucking destroys." San Marcos-based quartet This Will Destroy You knowingly bridges those two seminal Austin influences through elongated suites of glacial post-rock and electronic ambience, providing a soundtrack to rapid eye movements...
