Thrice Reviews

Release Date: October 18 2005 I remember when Thrice announced their hiatus in 2012. My world stopped for a brief moment, because one of my favorite bands broke up. It was a horrible experience that I wish I would never have to go through again. Okay, I'm just exaggerating a bit, but in all seriousness, Thrice announcing their hiatus in 2012 was a very heartbreaking thing to see...

First Thrice gave fans a heads up that they were "taking a break from being a full-time band." Then they gave 'em a Farewell Tour... and let them choose the setlist via their website. As if Thrice hadn't already done enough for their most loyal of loyalists, they recorded select dates of that tour and released them as a double disc live album, complete with a photo booklet of shots from the tour. What a bunch of great guys...

Release Date: October 16, 2007 "I am drowning in a digital sea/I am slipping beneath the sound" Dustin Kensrue exclaims during the chorus of the first track on the album. This is exactly the kind of thematic imagery you can expect from The Alchemy Index Volume 2: Water. When listening to it, you can't help but want to close your eyes and imagine vivid images of the ocean and all the life contained within it...

Sound: First of all, I have to say that this is my very first review so be indulgent. Second, this part will be quite long, courage folks. Being a big, big Thrice fan since "Identity Crisis" (2001) I had, as many ohter fans, to enlarge my musical orientation during the progression of this band...

Sound: The post-hardcore quartet from Irving, CA have come out with a brand new EP that, once again, will blow the minds of past fans and future listeners. It contains two B-sides that didn't make the album Vheissu, "Flags Of Dawn" and "Weight Of Glory," as well as four acoustic, live performances. The live tracks include "Under A Killing Moon," "For Miles," "Red Sky" and "Of Dust And Nations...

Sound: On their second full-length release "The Illusion of Safety", Thrice presents the perfect mix of punk, hardcore, emo, and metal. Most songs are very fast paced and highly energetic, perfect to fit your headbanging needs. Guitarists Dustin Kensrue and Teppei Teranishi take the classic roles of rhythm and lead, respectively, with Kensrue bashing out on downtuned powerchords as Teranishi's fingers fly up the fretboard with complex riffs that will make your head spin...

Sound: In September of 2006, Thrice announced to their fans that they had an idea for a new album, to follow up 2005's 'Vheissu' (which in this reviewer's opinion is one of the best albums ever made). It massively interested and excited Thrice fans across the world. Since 'The Artist In The Ambulance', Thrice have become a far more experimental band, as 'Vheissu' used far more varied instrumentation and brought in a whole new collection of influences to add to their hardcore and pop-punk centre...

Sound: Thrice are an evolutionary band, one who probably couldn't repeat an album if they tried, so I'll begin with a disclaimer: change is easy to accept with Thrice but it takes a significant amount of time for their music to expand and blossom in your mind. You may remember my unending praise for their last work, 'The Alchemy Index' (though I am clearly "not a Thrice fan" for giving their live album a 6...

Sound: Thrice's newest release, "Vheissu" marks a unique change of pace for the Irving, CA quartet. They've taken a progressive, experimental tone to their post-hardcore/metal edge, and created a beautiful masterpiece, worthy of the title "epic." This is an amazing work, and it's good to see Thrice continually evolving their sound and styles...
