Voivod Reviews

Avg. Customer Rating:
5.0 (based on 9 reviews)

In contrast to major metal and hard rock bands which refrained from making bold musical statements during the '90s, Voivod weren't "too big to be afraid to fail" and broke new ground with their 1997 album, the severely underrated . Unfortunately the band's incarnation at that time (Away/Piggy/Eric Forrester) never got to release anything else, as vocalist/bassist Eric Forrester (currently in E-Force) was seriously injured in a car accident during a German tour in 1998, and Voivod had to be put...

Voivod is one of those bands I've known for years and while I've always enjoyed what I've heard, I never did really explore the band thoroughly. Target Earth is the first album I've truly delved into by the band and I can't say I'm disappointed. The spacey progressive/trash metal vibe the album has is fantastic. Voivod has a unique sound to their music, in that even if you're only somewhat familiar with the band when you hear their music you know it's them...

Early '90s was a difficult period for metal bands that had just begun building or already established a credible body of work during the late '80s. French-Canadian avant-garde metal act Voivod was more than a notable case in point, as a huge breakthrough had been achieved with the album triplet / / ...

Voïvod Rrröööaaarrr back... From Mastodon and Enslaved, to Botch, the Dillinger Escape Plan and beyond, Voïvod's wild collision of jarring time-signatures and imaginative concepts have filtered through the consciousness of metal's most celebrated artists. Undoubtedly one of the greatest progressive metal bands to ever exist--just engage the scope and dexterity of 1987's Killing Technology, 1988's Dimension Hatröss, and 1989'sNothingface--incredibly, Voïvod still remain criminally...

Happy Anniversary, Voivod! The veteran heavy metallers, formed in Canada in 1983, unleashed their debut album War and Pain in 1984 to a divided audience. Nestled cosily between thrash and prog, they continued through the next three decades releasing eleven tightly-honed studio albums. Fleshing out their thrash sensibilities with hardcore punk, stoner rock and prog, they developed a distinctive niche, if little commercial success...

8 Critical Mass Release Date: January 22, 2013Label: Century Media So you know how heavy metal supposedly, suddenly, got all avant-garde and high-IQ in the past few years, enabling its embracement by the hippest of the bearded Brooklyn hip? Well, whoever you're banging your microbrewed brainbox to, odds are Voivod beat them to their best ideas by a quarter-century...

Dan "Chewy" Mongrain was an awed 12-year-old when he first heard Piggy's licks, and he knew what he wanted to do with his life...

Summary: A spectacular end (?) to an era. 9 of 9 thought this review was well written With their previous album, Angel Rat, Voivod presented a more straightforward rock aspect of their music, while they managed to surpass the "curse of perfect albums" (what is Nothingface?) with relative success...
