Walter Trout Reviews

From the opening note of Walter Trout's latest offering, The Blues Came Callin', this down and dirty, in your face, authentic blues record hooks you immediately. Set for a June 10, 2014 release and meant to commemorate Trout's 25th year as a solo artist with a book, documentary and tour as well, the 12-song collection features introspective, heartfelt raw emotion peppered with funky grooves. The seasoned blues singer, writer and guitar phenom has been sidelined with radical health issues...

I have lost track of the number of times I have been lucky enough to review a new album by Walter Trout: this is his 21st and I think I have covered most of them. I know that one day I am going to have to start the review in a negative tone but not yet ? this is one of his best yet...

Twenty years a solo star and somehow Trout keeps on developing his art and growing in stature. This is well up there with his best work and, frankly, he sounds more confident and happier with his music than he has in a while. He has now gotten together with the mighty Kenny Aronoff on drums ? Aronoff has previous duties with the likes of John Mellencamp, Elton John and John Fogerty ? and Jon Cleary on keys and piano who is/was part of Bonnie Raitt's band as well as a solo career...

Produced by John Porter and set up as a three piece power trio this is one big 'welcome back Mr Trout, now please kick my ass'. Opening with 'Welcome To The Human Race' this is Walter Trout doing the thing he does better than anyone else on the planet ? huge dynamics, power riffs and those vocals straining the throat and every sinew. His soloing is electrifying and he sounds as though he is back doing what he wants and really enjoying himself...

Some years ago, the old television import This Is Your Life was revived on British television. I don't think it's still running in the UK, but no doubt if the show were liable to feature the blues guitarist and singer Walter Trout, its researchers would be very grateful for the present CD. The circle of the title is a reference to this set being a studio reunion with John Mayallwhose Blues Breakers were sometime distinguished by Trout's fairly startling talents as guitaristand with a...

In his mid-fifties at the time of this album's release in 2006, Walter Trout seemed to be in a reflective mood. His 2005 album was a collection of older, previously unreleased tracks from various stages in his extensive career. This follow-up finds him reconnecting with many artists he has worked with, laying down newly recorded originals. In fact, this is Trout's first studio recorded disc of fresh material since 2001's Go the Distance...

Blues-rocker Walter Trout struts his stuff on Livin' Every Day, the follow-up to his self-titled 1998 major-label debut. Overall, it's another fine outing for rabid blues guitar fans, full of gritty, gutsy playing and well-executed band support. Although songwriting isn't the album's primary focus, there are a number of tough survivor's tales here that resonate pretty well...
