The French can't really do too much wrong. From croissants to wine to iconic tourist attractions, they're all class. Stylish and sleek, they've given us Chanel and Dior. Musically savvy to boot, they've produced Phoenix, Daft Punk, classics like Edith Piaf and, of course, Serge and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It would be easy to go on. But Yelle's music speaks for itself...

Oh-la-la - this young French lady makes some of the most exciting and satisfying dance music around. With her second album she's proven she is no fluke, or one hit wonder, as this is just as action packed, fun filled, and free flowing as her great debut. It's really hard to make a solid dance record that doesn't just rely on a few hits and then the rest is just forgettable filler, Yelle has no room for filler in her life, as every single song on here brings the goods with such exciting results...

In the four years since French electro queen Yelle released her debut, Pop Up, a gaggle of comparable female dance-pop characters -- from Gaga to La Roux to Robyn -- have made their way into the spotlight. And they do what the fun-loving, bubble-gummy Yelle does, but in English, more memorably and more extravagantly, robbing her girlie gig of the novelty it once possessed...

Despite currently touring Europe with Katy Perry, French group Yelle seems to have far more in common with the opening act of Perry's next tour leg, Robyn. In some sense, all three are involved in the process of breaking down and reinterpreting standard pop tropes. Perry does it with a sledgehammer, a purposely old-fashioned style that blends half-ironic cheesecake imagery with polished nostalgia...

When Yelle released their 2007 debut, Pop-Up, the French trio was beloved for their outré update of vin-tage synth pop. In the Gaga present, though, the same sounds come across as utterly mainstream. Julie Budet chirps exclusively in French, which helps her Auto-Tuned singsong remain vaguely mysterious, even if her childlike melodies are far simpler than the subtly finessed synths...

Kanye West samples Daft Punk, Justice drops "D.A.N.C.E." and at this point, the American music scene is head over heals with French electro artists. Looking to capitalize is the native from Brittany, France, Yelle. And who could blame her? She was recently MTV.com's "Artist of the Week" and has been getting mad air-time as the channel's bumper on The Hills (at least, she was on one bleary morning in a Miami hotel). Could Yelle be the French Lily Allen now that Frog is the new Brit...

As we sit in the middle of an atypical heatwave here in San Francisco it's made us think hard about what our summer jams are going to be, and luckily the debut album from Yelle has just hit stateside and we can officially proclaim that this will be one of our party records of summer '08! Hailing from France, Yelle evokes that special infectious magic of French pop in all its incarnations with a healthy dose of electro and a fun hip-hop disposition...

Francophile electro-pop completists (both of 'em) might roll their eyes with been-there-done- that ennui, but no matter: The rest of us can still thrill to the handclaps-and-Casio panache of Pop-Up, which, in its digital-only version, has been passed around for months like an intercepted mash note. The CD release adds a remix of dance-floor manifesto "A Cause Des Garcons" (a.k.a...
