Wasup? Yes, you read right - K-Ci and Jojo put an album out that is not a "Greatest Hits" compilation! Finding this album was almost as exciting as when I found ice cold Capri-Sun juice boxes at the store a few months ago. Unfortunately, the little 7-year old Neo had to calm down so the big boy could run the album for a few spins in preparation for this opinion...

It was 1993 when smooth groovers Jodeci released their debut 'Forever My Lady' and took R&B;, as we then knew it, to new heights. Alongside Devante and Dalvin Degrate, brothers K-Ci and JoJo Hailey hit on a winner with their soulful, sugary vocals, polished production and sexy, sophisticated original sound. It was a shame then, when the boys jacked Jodeci in two more albums later, to shake their thangs, solo stylee. Not that K-Ci and JoJo have spent much time looking back...

Finally, a wedding-worthy balladthat's not overblown schmaltz. K-Ci & JoJo Hailey, one half ofR&B; quartet Jodeci, put aside their bump-and-grind ways anddeclare themselves truly, madly, deeply head over heels. Onemust beware of romantic hyperbole in a pop world ruled by queenCeline, but K-Ci & JoJo exercise enough vocal restraint in All My Life to maketheir pledge believable. B

The Hailey brothers often sound like they're wailing somewhere near the amen corner, wrapping their hearts around every lyric in the testifyin' tradition. Like their multiplatinum debut, It's Real shines, mostly because of the duo's emotive ballads, which achieve a kind of prom-song-like sanctity without a trace of pappy sap. And with dependable lyrics like "I'll fly away" and "Somebody done done me wrong," you almost hear the murmur of angels.

The first two lines of brothers Cedric "K-Ci" and Joel "JoJo" Hailey's latest sex-you-up-by-numbers disc say it all: "Let's make love tonight/I'm in the mood to make love." And they hope you are, too. Backed by throbbing R&B; beats, finger snaps and a mix of Spanish and wah-wah porn guitar, the bad boys of balladeering spend a majority of X on their knees...

Brothers Cedric and Joel Hailey have enough surplus soul to get a stadium full of middle-aged ladies swooning. Their follow-up to 1997's Love Always takes steamy R&B; crooning to the limit, mixing smoothed-out sauciness with rawboned emotional power...

You know that guy Smoove B, from the Onion? I swear he gets half his material from these guys, whose R&B; mush ought to make any self-respecting girlfriend snicker just a little. Here they lay it on thick, joining midtempo hooks with such Hallmark-worthy titles as "So Emotional."

With rumors circulating about a Jodeci reunion release dropping later this year about as rampant as alcohol/drug related arrests in the Bush family, you may be wondering why vocal duo K-Ci & Jo Jo would want to drop another project. It goes without question that, since Jodeci's hiatus, these two have had some pretty impressive spin-off success with singles like "All My Life", "Tell Me It's Real", and "Crazy", but is it enough for yet another release? Some seem to think so...
