Let me begin this write-up with sort of an analogy (don't worry, it won't be long). Imagine getting your daily exercise walking down a familiar road; you have lots of friends here, and it's pleasant to watch your surroundings as you get your cardio workout in with the walk. However, with each day, some things are bound to change. Some toys will be in a different location, kids will be playing in a different area than before, etc. Basically, little changes based around a familiar path.....

Whatever you think of him, you have to admit that Zakk Wylde is something of a fighter. Not the sort of fighter who frequently goes into a pub and starts brawling with the nearest vulnerable punter, but the sort of fighter who's taken on quite a lot of problems in life head on. One of these problems has affected the man more than he probably expected, yet three years after a more-or-less life-changing turnaround he's still on his feet, effortlessly reclaiming the well-renowned "Captain Caveman"...

"This stuff is about as stimulating as a bowl of cereal." According to Andrew Carnegie, "People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents." On some levels, it may be unfair to attribute a dearth of motivation to Black Label Society mastermind Zakk Wylde, for the guy has stuck it out through thick and thin...

Black Label Society has been putting out albums at a steady pace since the band's formation back in 1998. And while there has been an album or two that was less than impressive, for the most part the band has released solid metal albums. Catacombs of the Black Vatican is the band's tenth studio album and while it's not as strong as some of Black Label Society's previous efforts it is a good listen, and an album fans of the band will no doubt enjoy...

Sound: This CD is a compilation of what Zakk Wylde and his Black Label Society have done since they were brought about in 1998 so as you can expect, the sound is pretty diverse. The first four songs on the CD are from a band called Pride and Glory that Wylde headed before BLS. The sound from them are heavily influenced by Southern rock and it really shows, especially in the first song, which has a banjo entrance...

Sound: I was absolutely shocked upon first listen to this album. Knowing Zakk Wylde I was sure that Hangover Music would be another heavy, loud and angry album (which he does very well by the way). Instead this album is full of piano and acoustic guitars with an electric guitar solo or riff here and there. It is a true testament to Wylde's songwriting capabilities as well as his versatility. If you want something heavy and aggresive, buy another BLS album, but this album is absolutely amazing...

Sound: Zakk Wylde and his Black Label Society have done it again on their new album, "The Song Remains Not The Same". This album is (almost) entirely acoustic and it shows us a new side of BLS. While there are no completely original songs on this album the acoustic remixes and covers of other songs are brilliant. It is a real treat to hear Black Label Society in a whole new setting...

Sound: When I first picked up this CD I thought it would contain something angry, filled with angst, agression, and pain. It did. This CD is amazing. There is so much pure strength within the album as a whole, not just a few songs. Pure insanity is a pretty good way to describe songs like "13 Years of Grief", "Phoney Smiles & Fake Hellos", and "Stronger Than Death". This is an album that shows Wylde's versatility like in the songs "Just Killing Time" and "Counterfeit God...

Sound: The Black Label Society has returned with another helping of immaculate riffs on Shot To Hell, but this time Zakk Wylde's piano skills are almost showcased as much as his guitar virtuosity. The band's new CD still sounds very much like classic BLS faire, but there does seem to be as much attention given to tackling ballads as the hard rock tracks. It's both surprising and admirable the amount of time Wylde allots to his softer side on his first release with Roadrunner Records...
