Sound: Dir En Grey, a influential Japanese rock band, have definately got alot 'heavier' for ther 5th album. If youve never heard of Dir en grey or the Japanese rock scene I'd advise you listen to Vulgar or Macabre first. That does not mean this album isn't anything special. Yes, it takes a couple of listens to get used to, but after that your in love. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics, as always, are dark and twisted...

Sound: Dir en grey is one of the most unique bands I have ever touched at. Their sound is not alike any others. Since their first album, their growth as a band and their sound was stable. From single to single, their growth was stable. Until Vulgar. Vulgar, DEG's 4th album was much different from their other albums. This album included all kinds of genres including heavy, speed metal, hardcore, alternative rock, funk, and behop. Listening to it was like traveling in their world of Vulgar...

Sound: If you ask any Dir En Grey fan, he or she will probably have a hard time putting into words how many different styles the Japanese band has explored over the years. On it's latest album The Marrow Of A Bone, Dir En Grey will take you all over the place musically, but it's definitely worth the trip. The band gained plenty of exposure on the video scene when a single off it's last album ("Saku") was named #1 video of the year on MTV2 thanks to it's creepy Marilyn Manson-esque quality...

Sound: Dir En Grey's eighth studio album is now avalible, after 2008's massively successful, "Uroboros". I've been listening intently to this album solid from its release, with my first listen to it I was left with a scrambled brain and left exausted by how chaotic and messey it was - it's no easy listen by any means, it takes a solid few listens for you to digest it all...

Sound: Gauze is a 13 track (or 14 if you count the bonus track) album first released in Japan in 1998 from now-veteran JRockers Dir en Grey on the Free-Will record label. Dir en Grey have always had a penchant for making their work darker, grittier and altogether more haunting than their contemporaries. Though they have come a long way since Gauze's release 11 years ago the traits that make them stand above the others are still present...

Goto commentsLeave a commentShare Gives A Different Sense Few bands defy categorization in the way that Dir En Grey manages to achieve. The Japanese quintet began life as a visual kei band (the equivalent of glam rock), before branching out into heavy metal, nu metal, progressive metal, even death metal, and parts beyond. And, most surprisingly, they perform all of these diverse subgenres with uncanny ease. The group continues to expand their repertoire on eighth full-length, Dum Spiro Spero...

Summary: It's a tragedy really, watching a truly creative band buckle under the weight of their own ambitions. 15 of 21 thought this review was well written Years ago I grew fond of a young lady in my town. I wished to know everything about her, her favorite books, where she liked to spend most of her time, and most importantly, her favorite music. It didn't take long for her to tell me the latter, as she had a rather large "DIR EN GREY" tattoo right on her person...

Flashback to 2006. I was trolling YouTube and came across a video of Dir En Grey on the Family Values tour, where their frontman, Kyo, proceeded to beat the sh*t out of himself and bleed all over the stage. There and then, I was sold on them - how can you not love someone who is willing to bleed for their art, even if he/she is a complete head case? I actively sought out their music, but didn't like it as much as what I initially saw and heard on that clip...

Experimental metallers Dir En Grey are Japan's very own Into Eternity--their music is eclectic and hard to classify into any one sub-genre--except that they have the added fangirl-ish oomph of flashy appearances, thanks to their visual-kei roots...
