Culver City. Santa Monica. The 101. LA County. The liquor store. The alley. Your dealer's car. Beer, speed, blow, weed. FIDLAR are your friendly neighborhood loser garage-rock heroes, and they want to take you along for the ride. Preorder this record and get a band-branded skate deck; if they could, they'd probably toss in an eighth...

FIDLAR (meaning Fuck It Dog, Life's A Risk) are just what a young garage punk band should be. Few friends making some tunes but mostly looking to get drunk and party. They have a great ethos behind the band that basically is just a big middle finger to everyday society and they are just going to do what they want. It's refreshing to see such abandonment of convention and reestablishing a punk ethic that to be honest, is long gone in most of the new bands on the scene today...

FIDLAR like to party. FIDLAR like to do drugs, drink too much, drive under the influence, skateboard, jerk-off, pass out and do it again. FIDLAR are not a band with a lot of nuance, but that single-minded focus on doing dumb ass shit is also their strongest weapon.
The Los Angeles four-piece traffic almost exclusively in surf-punk and garage-rock, making quick anthems about the joys of doing self-inflicted bodily harm without feeling bad about it...

Fidlar'Fidlar' (Wichita) 4.5Recommended Track 'Whore' Not to do ourselves out of a job, but the best way to review LA quartet Fidlar wouldn't be with words, but with a before an after photo of the most hedonistic, fucked up house party and the resulting, K.O-ed carnage. Fidlar understand that life is fundamentally shit and the way around it is to just do whatever the hell you like. Drink, smoke, fuck, fight, party. Listen to balls-to-the-wall garage punk like this. Deal with the fall-out later...

"I'm an occasional drinker," Raymond Chandler once wrote. "The kind of guy who goes out for a beer and wakes up in Singapore with a full beard." It's doubtful that Chandler would get along with the guys from FIDLAR--he actually was a very sad person--but they'd certainly have a lot to talk about, writing wise. Mainly that both of their protagonists often drink a seemingly impossible amount of alcohol, and hang around Los Angeles, so convinced of their loserdom that they're actually cool...

LA punks FIDLAR opened up their debut DIYDUI EP with the song "Wake, Bake, Skate," which set the tone for the collection of songs and the band's personality: guys who like to have fun, do a few drugs, and just mess around...

There's not much to really like about this debut from snot-nosed LA punks Fidlar. They're obviously manouevring to take the party hard crown from Andrew WK with tracks like 'Cheap Beer' and 'Cocaine' but the drug-fuelled enthusiasm doesn't fail to hide the fact that the occasional thrills are of the fleeting variety. The former lifts a Cramps riff to boisterous effect and 'Wake Bake Skate' has an undeniable energy but after that the returns are minimal...

"I drink cheap beer, so what, fuck you," yells frontman Zac Carper on the chorus of Cheap Bear, the opening song from Fidlar's debut album. It's a suitable opener from the LA punk band, setting up the alcohol and drug-fueled scene where they spend the whole of their eponymous album. With a name that is apparently an acronym for 'Fuck It Dog, Life's A Risk' - a catchphrase gleaned from skateboarders in California - it's hardly surprising that the angsty four-piece are unashamedly brash...
