Tweet Nothing Like Home Is Right In a twenty year span, G. Love & Special Sauce has stayed consistent genre-wise. The lineup has had its changes, but for the first time since the group started, it's back to square one. The original trio has released their latest album, Sugar, and has stayed true to its roots. The same hip-hop and blues fusion found on the first recordings lives on in this album...

Led by frontman Garrett Dutton, Philadelphia-based G. Love and Special Sauce has been spreading around its hippie funk-pop for nearly two decades now. But this time, Dutton (aka G. Love) splits off from his crew for a solo album that explores more rootsy territory, thanks to a mutually inspiring friendship with folk rockers The Avett Brothers, who took over production duties on Fixin' to Die. On this new record, G...

With a little help from some new friends, Fixin' to Die is the best studio recording of G. Love's career. Sure, over the course of what is now nearly a 20-year tenure, he's recorded some damn fine, classic CDs and songs; the eponymous major label debut G. Love & Special Sauce featuring "Baby's Got Sauce" and "Cold Beverages" in particular, put the Philadelphia by way of Boston band on the map...

Lemonade is a refreshing summertime drink. What a shock, then, that "Lemonade," from Philadelphia's G. Love, is a refreshing summertime album. Bright and sunny with plenty of guests, G. Love's second album on pal Jack Johnson's Brushfire label is a fun, easy listen--a perfect soundtrack to backyard hanging' or block party bumpin'. Much of "Lemonade" echoes G. Love's earlier music. The Philly hip-hop bluesman isn't breaking any new ground here...

Think of East Coast hip hop and you think Beastie Boys and Eminem. Certainly G-Love doesn't approach the forefront of the genre in quite the same way, though the Philadelphian is established in his own subtle approach.Lemonade, released on Jack Johnson's Brushfire label, complements the Beasties' upfront, nasal delivery by kicking back, opening a beer and maybe smoking something, and strumming some tunes...

What do you get if you cross Jack Johnson, a softer bit of Jurassic 5 and a harmonica?A painful condition you might think. Musically, it's something a bit closer to G-Love, who quickly follow up last year's Lemonade album with another long player that doesn't shy away from posing a few political questions and endorsing world peace - doing so at a pretty relaxed tempo, having kicked off its shoes...

Sound: What it takes to make to make lemonade -- fresh lemon juice, water and sugar -- mix it and cool in the fridge. As simple as that G. Love makes his new record Lemonade mixing a non-alcoholic drink of blues, R&B; and hip-hop. With a 12-year experience on the scene, G. Love has polished his sound, made it recognizable and original. He knows exactly what he wants with every next record and he knows what it takes...

G-Love has been around for quite a while, first making a splash in the 1990s with his group Special Sauce. I've often heard about him and how good he is, but being the hardcore rap fan I am I had a hunch that while G-Love's music was technically rap it wasn't necessarily my preferred flavor. His 2006 offering, "Lemonade," proves the point as G-Love's mix of blues, funk, and folk is sure to be an acquired taste to most rap fans...

Plenty of fizz but not quite enough pop on seventh album from white boy bluesy hip hop crusaders It's always been a tale of almost, but not quite with Philadelphia trio G. Love (previously known as G. Love & Special Sauce). Initially, their playfully sloppy white boy hip hop seemed set to explode when early single Cold Beverage bagged heavy MTV rotation back in 1994. Their eponymous debut album almost went gold, too...
