Motorhead meets Lynyrd Skynyrd. That's how I used to describe Nashville Pussy to people who had never heard them, but it may be time to reconsider. Maybe it should be ZZ Top meets AC/DC. Even the cover art of Up The Dosage is reminiscent of Back In Black. The sound has changed a bit over the years as the band has embraced their bluesy roots. They've slowly been moving away from the speed that defined their 1998 debut, Let Them Eat Pussy. Luckily, some things never change...

When I check in with the escapades of Nashville Pussy, which isn't that often, usually when a new album comes around, they always seem to be on tour in Europe. It's not that they don't tour in the States. They did an East Coast tour this past fall (2013). Yet, of all places in Europe, the band seems quite popular in France. I don't know why that strikes me as odd, except the fact that the French have always been odd birds themselves...

"The star throughout is guitarist Ruyter Suys, whose ax-work owes a lot to Angus Young, Ted Nugent and Johnny Ramone, in pretty much that order." True to form, there are plenty of tasty licks on Nashville Pussy's "From Hell To Texas - Live And Loud In Europe," but some questionable production on the studio disc robs some of them of their power. Fortunately, the bonus live disc makes up for those missteps, with a healthy dose of crowd energy and better sound...

Label SPV/Steamhammer revisits Nashville Pussy's 2009 release From Hell to Texas, reissuing it with a second bonus CD, Live and Loud in Europe. Little more needs to be said of the studio album. If you're a fan of the band and party hard rock in general, you probably know its pretty good and also have a copy. Above, Nashville Pussy: from Atlanta to rocking live and loud in Europe. Therefore, we'll speak only to the bonus CD, a special live set from Nashville Pussy's 2011 European jaunt...

Music, by nature, is uncivilized. And the most uncivilized creature in the great, wide world of music is rock 'n' roll. It's been that way from the start, ever since last century when Robert Johnson sold his soul at the crossroads and then Chuck Berry plugged in his first electric guitar. Rock's the beast that, when stuck in a cage with the other animals, will rattle the bars, howl obscenely and try to have sex with all the females in the cage...

If you're familiar with Atlanta's Nashville Pussy it should come as no surprise that their new CD 'From Hell To Texas' is another high-energy party rock extravaganza filled with strong Southern rock influences and attitude. If you're new to the band, try to imagine Alice Cooper hooking up with Ted Nugent to sing about drinking and drugs. If you can make that connection, you're there. Don't expect any mind-numbing guitar playing or ten minute epics on 'From Hell To Texas...

Say what you will about the music, but half of what makes the Pussy tick is their shtick, and they lost a gorgeous, 6-foot-3 chunk of it when she-bassist Corey Parks left the band somewhere between High As Hell and the new release. Were a blind man to listen to Say Something Nasty, he'd hear the same skeezy-assed honky-tonk hacksaw metal (The Bitch Just Kicked Me Out, an ode to backwoods masturbation in Jack Shack etc.) that only makes them half good...

After the relative success of their previous album 'Say Something Nasty', 2009 release 'From Hell to Texas' hits our shelves with an abundance of expectation...

Sound: If there's one thing we can all rely on in life, it's that Nashville Pussy will continue to churn out lots of Southern-fried rock songs about sex, alcohol, and fighting. These key elements to the Atlantic quartet have made them the must-see live band for about the past decade, and the band's latest CD From Hell To Texas still relays plenty of attitude (just not quite as vivid)...
