Ringo Starr Reviews

The fact that Ringo 2012 is Starr's 17th solo album may come as a surprise to some. More than a few have zipped by unnoticed but, while it would be optimistic to say he's back on top form, this new collection is a meatier improvement on Starr's most recent visits to the studio. A couple of the new 'uns come close to the attractive pop bounce of his charts-reaching days, notably the chirpy reggae-lite of Wings (that's the name of the track, not a reference to his old mucker's other band) and...

Sound: The outcast. The other Beatle. The one who came up with some of the those trippy songs about Octopuses and gardens. No matter the title, Ringo Star is still a Beatle. He's still the drummer who helped solidify the four-piece for a number of years and even up til now, he's still making music. Though none of Starr's solo work has been groundbreaking, they've still attracted fans and those who rely on traditional pop to get them through the morning...

Summary: Some albums exist just because they can. 9 of 9 thought this review was well written It may come as a bit of a surprise for some to learn that former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has released, on average, an album every two years since 1998. And, if one winds the clock back to 1970 - the year that the Fab Four called it a day - one quickly discovers that the man's total individual output actually stands at a whopping seventeen albums...

With only two Beatles left, we tend to cling to everything and anything they bring to us. Maybe it doesn't reach up to the heights they achieved when they were fab but, honestly, what could? Ringo Starr was the one critics were (and still are) sniffy about, all that "not the best drummer in the Beatles" bullshit, yet people forget, after Paul, Ringo got more fan mail than George and John combined. And it would seem, from the evidence of this lovely DVD, that affection has never waned...

Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr is the musical equivalent of meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes and a cold glass of milk to wash it down with. Not too exciting, very predictable, but also very comforting and in the right mood, exactly what you're looking for. The title of Ringo's new CD, Ringo 2012, seems a bit odd at first since given its overall sound and style it could have easily been released in 1982...

The Beatles broke up in 1970 and almost immediately the band's output was enshrined as the new standards by which other music was measured. The once insurgent music was now the new tradition. For the generations that followed, the Beatles' songs represented the old and over-praised conventions of the past that needed to be rebelled against. Baby boomers treated the Beatles as God's gift when they were merely a rock and roll band...

Every Ringo Starr album is a concept album. The concept is: Man, Ringo, what a good dude. These nine buoyant, no-frills tunes could've been recorded anytime in the past 40 years. But they're knocked out with unchanging bonhomie, steeped in the nice vibes he generates with pals like Dave Stewart and his brother-in-law Joe Walsh...

Buy it from Buy the CDRingo StarrRingo 2012 (Shm-CD)Universal2012 It's safe to say that 40 years into his solo career, you know what to expect with Ringo Starr: cheerful, upbeat songs about peace ("Anthem") and wistful nostalgia ("In Liverpool") that sound a bit like the Beatles' later output, albeit with their genius watered down to homeopathic levels...
