Scott Stapp Reviews

Scott Stapp returns with a solo effort after releasing Full Circle with his band, Creed in 2009. If anyone is even slightly familiar with rock music, it would seem unusual for one to be unaware of Creed, a band that has sold a substantial amount of albums (over 40 million) and garnered what seemed like endless exposure on video channels back in the early 2000s. Creed often had to deal with the criticisms of being compared to other bands or being labeled as a post-grunge endeavor in music...

Artist: Scott Stapp Album: Proof of Life Label: Wind-Up Release Date: 11.05.13 Reviewer: Lee Brown Track Listing: Scott Stapp, former frontman for the Multi-platinum selling band Creed, has been very open of late about the struggles he has had with drugs, alcohol, and questions of faith in the past...

Sound: This album, (The Great Divide, by Scott Stapp), has a very similar sound to Creed, of course Scott Stapp was the lead singer for Creed, so that should be fairly obvious. The album was a heavier version of Creed's music, though. So it appeals to slightly different audience. It has a great musical structure, and the guitarist, matches if not is better than Mark Tremonti, which is saying something very major. // 10 Lyrics and Singing: The lyrics are very religious, as expected...

Rock band Creed exploded onto the scene in 1999 with their sophomore release, Human Clay. They were the originators of a sound that so many bands try to mimic. With strong guitar work, pounding drums, and soaring vocals, it was no wonder that the band was a smash success at radio. However, it was the deep spiritual content that seemed to be hidden amongst vague lyrics that caught the attention of many Christians. When pressed with the question of "are they or aren't they a Christian band...

Has there ever been an artist who has sold so many records and yet seems to be as universally detested as Scott Stapp...

Levitating in a video, nearly destroying your vocal cords with steroids, saddling your son with the name "Jagger"...one hopes Scott Stapp would look back on these choices with a nip of chagrin. Guess not: The former Creed leader's solo debut pushes that band's raise-the-arena-roof God-rock clichés even further toward some terrifying vortex of bluster. That char-broiled baritone is back, howling about crisis and redemption over endless guitar arpeggios and cymbal crashes...

It takes superhuman levels of concentration, but by ignoring the lyrics, one can appreciate Scott Stapp's solo debut The Great Divide for what it is: solidlybuilt post-grunge for chest beating, fist-pumping, and beerysing-alongs. Stapp's new backup band is tighter than Creed was, rippingthrough thundering prog-metal with slick virtuosity ("Reach Out" and"Fight Song"). And Stapp certainly knows how to craft a ham-handedstadium anthem (the title tune)...
