By now, you are either on Southern Culture on the Skids' goofy garage, country, swamp stomp, surf trailer they have been driving to every club in the country since 1991 or you have decided that their 8-piece box of Southern fried friskiness just isn't going to satisfy your palette. This rollicking revamp of the band's 1994 Ditch Digging release finds the trio re-recording the 13 originals -- but not the two terrific Link Wray and Louvin Brothers covers - from that album...

Zombies. Damn things are everywhere. Gotta call the exterminator, but while he's sautéing brains and setting deadfalls for the undead, we have this Halloween-themed collection of campy horror songs suitable for parties or trick-or-treating. Southern Culture on the Skids or SCOTS as they abbreviate themselves does the redneck theme gig pretty well, and it's just a small slip of the time warp to move them into Halloween...

Countrypolitan Favorites is Southern Culture's covers album, and the fun of covers albums is that they lay bare the bands' roots, showing us the tunes they geek out for. Mojo Box is a groove-filled, infectious mix of R&B;, country and garage rock. It's also the seventh disc from Southern Culture on the Skids and their formula is honed sharp as an axe. The vocal harmonies are tight, the instruments on fire and lyrically they're more concerned about their own backwoods lives and romances and cars than the state of the world. A fun disc to spin.

Y'all make fun of Southerners, but that's where you head for your boisterous moonshine-at-the-drive-in rollin'-in-the-dirt fun after too much cool jazz and over-permed synth boys dry out your rockin' bone. SCOTS cranks out album number 14 with the same outrageous humor and rockabilly licks you've loved since that college dive bar in Chapel Hill. The hits are all there, beginning with "Bone Dry Dirt...

I had the pleasure of seeing Southern Culture on the Skids, known to fans as SCOTS, play live a few years back. The trio's live show was a mixture of hilarious get-ups, white-trash shtick, and some of the best rockabilly, surf, and swamp-rock I had heard in a long time. The group was so much fun in concert that I never checked out one of SCOTS' albums, since great live performers often aren't as awesome on a recording...
