That hashtag directs the mind back to the Olympic torch procession, when will.i.am managed to fire off a string of tweets while carrying the flame through Taunton. That self-serving attitude also attends the Black Eyed Pea's first solo album since 2007. He's written 18 joylessly competent club tracks, roped in pals including Lil' Wayne, Nicole Scherzinger and Justin Bieber, and contrived some mutually beneficial hookups with newer artists (watch his stock rise in Asia as a result of association...

What with his TV talent show duties, a voice acting career and an ambassadorial role at Intel (its five-note musical ident is inelegantly shoehorned into Geekin'), it might look as if making music is no longer will.i.am's chief concern. That suspicion is certainly borne out by this underwhelming fourth solo album...

10th Anniversary Expanded & Limited Edition, includes a bonus CD of instrumental versions. "The mood of Lost Change ranges from fuzzy funk too jazzy downright jiggy. will.i.am utilizes some creative production tricks, such as building the bouncy I am around throaty beatbox. BBE are releasing Lost Change as part of their Beat Generation series.

Now I must confess that I don't already number amongst their ranks, as William have so far completely passed me by. Question is though ? am I a fan now...

The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am has kept plenty busy over the past few years, crafting diverse tracks for everyone from Justin Timberlake to Talib Kweli to Sergio Mendes. Given that some of the rapper-producer's least profound work ? bubblegum cheer-hop like Fergie's "Fergalicious" and the Peas' own "My Humps" ? has also been his best-received, it's no shocker that he would choose a similar direction for his own project. Indeed, the only surprise on Songs About Girls, will.i...

This powerful three-piece peddle a style of artful lo-fi that is clearly influenced by Sonic Youth, The Pixies and Pavement. Accordingly, their well-constructed songs contain lots of Black Francis-style yelping and surreal lyrics, but they are much more than mere copyists. They nail the trick that some of their predecessors managed - combining reflective lyrics and a melancholic feel with rocking energy...
