Sam Outlaw Brings Unique Countrypolitan Style to LA’s Bluegrass Situation

1024_EP_grandeIt has to be a stage name, right? Turns out that Sam Outlaw comes by his serendipitous name quite honestly – it’s his mother’s maiden name, which he took as his own when he tossed aside a career as an ad executive to become a country star. The 33-year-old singer hit the stage running in 2014, and Sam Outlaw concert tickets quickly became as hard to find as the proverbial Golden Ticket. So who is this country wunderkind who has made East LA his home stomping grounds?

Only a Few Sam Outlaw Tickets Left: Get Them Here!

Just Who is Sam Outlaw?

Sam Outlaw was born Sam Morgan in Aberdeen, SD in 1982. He grew up in a conservative Christian household, and was only allowed to listen to oldies music on the radio with his father. When he reached his teens, he discovered classic country music, and fell in love with voices like Emmylou Harris and George Jones. Those classic country songs continue to inspire him and their influence can be heard in his country-twang-meets-East-LA style.

Unlike many up-and-coming country stars, Outlaw didn’t dream of playing the Grand Ole Opry all his life. In fact, young Sam Morgan forged a successful career as a Los Angeles ad executive, and his destiny appeared settled until he had a revelation at his 30th birthday party – that he never felt as alive and connected to the world as he was when he was playing music. He immediately switched gears and applied his considerable talents – both musical and marketing – to launching a new career as a country singer.

Sam Outlaws Rise to (Almost) Fame

And what a launch it was. From the start, Outlaw attracted attention and kicked up the buzz to high. He self-released an EP in 2014, and it went viral, attracting the attention of such country roots heavy hitters as Ry and Joachim Cooder. The video caught the eye of CMT producers, and of producers of the Stagecoach Festival and Americana Fest. Within his first year of performing, Sam Outlaw, former LA ad executive, was playing stages that many country artists strive to reach for years.

In July, Rolling Stone magazine listed Sam Outlaw at the top of its 10 New Country Artists You Need to Know Summer 2015 list, alongside such names as Annie Bosko, the Deslondes and Chris Lane. His candid remarks to reporter Marissa Moss were characteristic of the East Angeleno country artist, who explained, “I might be just a dork in a cowboy hat in L.A., but if I move to Nashville, I’ll be just another dork in a cowboy hat.”

Sam Outlaw Tickets are Hard to Come By—For a Reason

It’s a refreshing viewpoint that meshes well with the creative mind responsible for songs with titles like “Jesus Take the Wheel (and Drive Me to a Bar)”, and has fueled popularity that has made Sam Outlaw tickets almost impossible to find. The release of his first full-length album – Angeleno, co-produced by father-and-son team Ry and Joachim Cooder – spurred Sam Outlaw concert ticket sales even higher. Fans who want a taste of Outlaw’s unique blend of country twang and mariachi lushness can find what they’re looking for at the Bluegrass Situation’s annual roots country music festival at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on October 3.
