Hot from Europe

The Black Keys are touring to support the release of their latest album, Turn Blue, which debuted in May. The blues/rock duo of Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney have spent the summer touring Europe, with dates in Germany, Switzerland, Paris, Belgium, Italy, Portugal and England. After a six-week break, they swung into their North American tour on September 5 and are already eight shows into their dates with opening act, Cage the Elephant. Their rousing pop-py blues sound has had fans on their feet in stadiums and concert halls from Columbus to Rochester, pulling both puffs and pans from critics.

The Black Keys are both famous and notorious among the people who know their background music from more than 200 television ads. As one music critic puts it in a snarky review of Turn Blue (for Pitchfork, of course), The Black Keys have provided the soundtrack for every “car commercial and buddy-comedy movie trailer that doesn’t have break-dancing hamsters in it.” Their strategy of licensing their music for use in advertising has paid off – fans know their music long before they know the band. It’s a strategy that has helped them pull off multiple Grammies and build a huge fan base.

Hard Hitting Shows with Cage the Elephant

The earliest shows in the tour have garnered enthusiastic reviews – and even more enthusiastic audience response. Cage the Elephant is the perfect opening act for The Black Keys, with their unabashed, hard-driving rock riffs that are a total throwback to the early 90s, when garage band music was king. They’ll be joining The Black Keys on all their shows through September 28 in Chicago, when Jake Bugg takes over for the second part of the North American tour.
